Well mine is going out Monday. I wasn't able to get her most wanted item so guess I'll be going down into the hole. At least in the hole it looks like I'll be with some good people. Sure hope she can use what I did send. Oh well this is for fun, right? Hope you all have a super weekend. Prayers go out to the those who are having a hard time. BrendaK

My kitty might appreciate the wrapped fish, thanks for the wrapping tutorial As my most wanted item on my Christmas list is a kitten, I provided my family with this little gem:

That was hilarious! I wish my cats would sit still for a wrapping job!

I was raised a city kid. When I was ten, my dad remarried a country girl. The first Christmas with her we went to her parents home for Christmas. I remember feeling the long cold ride with a really lousy car heater, and being amazed at all the country side, and wide open space. I do remember wondering if there was any heat out in the country. When we pulled into the driveway, I remember being impressed that anyone had such a long driveway that went down and down. Her father had been born in the very room that he now shared with his wife. Can you even imagine that? His parents had been settlers and laid claim to a forested box canyon where they began a saw mill. When we arrived at the bottom, we all spilled into the brightly lit kitchen filled with wonderful smells, I thought I had suddenly found myself in heaven. There was way too much of way too many new things, turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes, fruit salad, etc. I had never seen such a quantity of food, and being told to eat what ever I wanted was almost too much to believe. (Dad was a newly single, recently released, Marine with four little kids, so we ate lots of burgers). After dinner, and after we all did our part to clean up, we sat down to watch "It's a wonderful life". As we dressed to leave I discovered it was snowing, so we had to spend the night. I went to bed on the living room carpet thinking that I must have been real good that year to have so much at once. Sleeping against the foot pedals of grandma's piano (she told us she was really grandma too), was the best time I had ever had. Old upright pianos always remind me of the wonder filled Christmas the year I was ten.

Aunt Olean was foster mother to us five siblings. I was next to youngest & was a curious child. I wanted to know how & why things worked. I had always been looking for a reliable father figure but Uncle Bill, Olean's husband, was more grandfatherly, but a gentle soul who treated me well. But I kept searching for my ideal dad. Vietnam was raging and we listened to the news nightly as John, their son, was on active duty there. His Army uniform picture sat proudly on the living room coffee table & resembled the cute guy on tv, Ricky Nelson. On the way back & forth to church we kids would debate who we wanted to be our father. Elvis was always a favorite but I said Ricky Nelson instead because he had a dad & mom & brother on tv, and he was so darn cute in my second grade mind! I wished for it so bad especially when he sang during their Christmas episode. We lived on a farm and gathered pine, straw & cedar plus a little Christmas tree which we decorated with those & handmade looped paper chains, popcorn, and gingerbread men. We had never seen such a lovely tree & were so tempted to eat the bounty on it!
Christmas eve night we participated in the children's play, did the hayride, & rode home singing carols. I had never been that happy in my life!
I wondered if my wish would come true, I prayed so hard I was dizzy. Lying in bed, I thought that God had given us kids was more than anything we could hope for so I thanked him for the gifts of good, god fearing foster parents, a warm & loving home, and really tasty food. It was very late & I so deep in thought I barely heard the car on the gravel road. The front door opened & I could hear crying & ran to see what happened. Aunt Olean & Uncle Bill were bear hugging a man who looked just like Ricky Nelson! She said he was her son home from Vietnam, smiled sweetly, & asked me to go back to bed. But he asked her if he could pick me up & before she could answer I flew into his arms. I told him that I watched for him every night on the news & was glad he was alive. He told me he wished he had a little girl like me! I knew then that we all get what we need but not always what we want. There's more but you'll have to wait for the book to be published.
    sisterly hugs,
    dj

The last of the items I was waiting on has arrived. Everything is wrapped and in the box ready to be mailed tomorrow. This package will come under "great things come in small packages" because my Santee's most wanted items are small. But she's getting 4 half yard pieces of fabric instead of FQs. I'm not really a fan of FQs (prefer the width of fabric), so I usually sub 1/3rd to 1/2 yard pieces. Now let the waiting begin.
