2. if you want to have a 'secondary pattern' show up in your finished quilt - such as Lesley's finished quilt or greenfairy's [http://greenfairyquilts.blogspot.com...evisited.html] you need to map out a color or fabric scheme ahead of time. Such as number of aqua fabrics, reds, yellows, greens, purples, etc to make secondary diamond show up in your finished product. I suggest graph paper or EQ. or you can use the 'design wall' created by Sharon Mastbrook found here... http://www.smastbrook.net/dj/djvdw.htm

When you are just quilting your blocks...cut your batting larger than you need...I cut mine 6" square (if I remember correctly)....you want it large enough to extend out to where the sashing will be so that you will just sew the blocks together and you will have enough to extend under the sashing strips when you are ready to assemble. After you quilt the blocks, you will trim it to the size you need...depending on how large you want your sashing.

Phew!
I just finished reading all 69 pages!
I am jumping in on this one with all of you. I think I can....I think I can.....
Not much time to get my fabric together but I already have the book and software. DH loaded it on my laptop so that is set.
I would love to complete a DJ in my lifetime. Bucket list things, you know
Love all the pictures and inspiration!
Now to figure out what fabrics to use.......
