Dear Jane Stickle 2d Cyber Block Party - January 2012
#781
I was just visiting a DJ on-line forum and ran across another way to QAYG our DJ's. It's similar to the way it's explained on this site, but it's done in manageable sections instead of individual blocks. It looks pretty interesting.

I don't know -- I didn't look at it that closely. But I don't know why you couldn't extend the batting the same way it's done with the individual blocks.

blocks per week
Hi..I think I can do two a week. And catch up from time to time with the schedule. I have put off making this quilt for too many years. Because I think I don't have enough time. Doing it with a group will work for me.

I'm getting together with a couple of friends this week, CBirdie, to get started on next weeks group of three - will keep you posted - the blocks are so small - I will let you know how long it takes for three and 'tempt' you to go for it!
Welcome aboard!!

Yes, katybob. You are right! I bet that will work great; I'm embarrassed I didn't think of that myself. Thanks. I plan on doing QAYG with this method. I like the idea of bigger pieces.

I like the idea of bigger sections, too, especially with the way Gus is keeping blocks together.

QuiltnNan..........if you launder the fabric (including the backing) until there's no more shrinkage, what about the batting shrinkage when you launder the completed top for the first time?
I washed both the red and the muslin in the hottest water that I could. The muslin shrank 8% in width and 11% in length. The red shrank 11% in width. I didn't measure the length - it's on the bolt and I don't want to unwind again These numbers are why I always prewash. Different fabrics shrink different amounts in width and length. If I'm doing applique, for example, I don't want that applique to go wonky... if I want a circle, I want it to remain a circle.
