If you use pincushions with walnut shells please be aware

of who is going to be using the finished product. My dd is deathly allergic to walnuts, including the shells, even from casual contact. I cannot buy ready made items (from individuals or from shops that sell pincushions w/ walnut inside) that can't be machine washed or do swaps because I won't take the chance the creator used pins that had been in a walnut shell filled pincushion. To be honest, this trend scares the crap out of me. When my dd is older and on her own, I hope she remembers things like this that people wouldn't even think twice about, even knowing about her allergy.
Also I've read that walnut shells dull needles because they're like wood.

It's not easy. She's allergic to all nuts, including peanuts and you can't even imagine how many things that are not safe are not labeled. I have to contact the manufacturer of pretty much every food, lotion, shampoo, soap, etc that we use. We have to be careful about potting soil (all Scott's products may contain nut shells) and there are products like green beans, mac & cheese, even generic kool aid mix that have nut cross-contamination.
I have to admit when I read about nut shells in pincushions last year I just about lost it.

Whoops@@@@ I never thought of that, and many in our family have some life threatening allergies!!!
I'll spread the word. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Now start a spread sheet with FAMILIES OF ALL SHE IS ALLERGIC TO.
My late DH, a nurseryman, did this for my mother, who was allergic to the night shade family. Sounds terrible? And no one
would be able to buy them easily?
Well, that also includes...are you ready for this? Potatoes. Tomatoes. Eggplant. Peppers-Bell peppers, cayenne peppers, even Paprika, which is made from Bell peppers. Even tobacco is one of this family, which means growers don't want these others any too near their crops because of cross contamination if the other nightshade family members are diseased.
Eating some of these could give you a misdiagnosis of Arthritis and muscle pain!!! They have a lot of side effects, from weight gain to pain all over or just in joints.

A friend I worked with was so allergic to nuts, that when she accidentally ate some, (fortunately we worked in a medical office) her heart had to be restarted 3 times! Allergies can not only be serious, but also make life seriously miserable for people. They gave me serious migraines for years before it was figured out.
