i have heard so much about the peanut allergies- i had no idea they actually may be all nuts...that has to be so hard! and i though i had it tough because im allergic to artificial colorings/flavorings...which is it's own pain...i have to read every single label---and was so bumbed one day when in a hurry and wanting something besides water i ran into a gas station and bought a lipton green tea---only to get to work and find it had red dye 40 in it (for me the most deadly)---why in the world they had a need to add a red food coloring to green tea is beyond me---but we have to read everything ...
if emory powder is not used- maybe rice would be a good alternative??? just a thought...i use wool pin cushions- and love them. they keep the needles smooth and sharp- the lanolin in the wool keeps the needles gliding beautifully

:) I'm glad that people who didn't know are reading this. Every extra person who is aware makes the people who are allergic that much safer. Since nut allergies are usually life threatening it's a big deal. :)

Good info to have Gale, I certainly never thought about it...thanks.
I'm sure the topic was moved because it turned into more of an allergy topic than pincushion topic... it'll still get read and remembered, I'm sure! :)

We have to be careful about potting soil (all Scott's products may contain nut shells) and there are products like green beans, mac & cheese, even generic kool aid mix that have nut cross-contamination.
I have to admit when I read about nut shells in pincushions last year I just about lost it.

And like you said, the cross-contamination issue is everywhere. Last summer we traveled cross-country to visit my sister. She had two kinds of hand soap in the house - one was "milk & honey" containing actual milk, and the other soap had walnut oil in it. Time for a grocery run . . . just an example of things the non-allergic wouldn't suspect could be a problem. But we are always on high alert, aren't we?
