Default Anyone use satin binding on quilts?

Binding or the wider "baby blanket" wide stuff that used to be all around baby blankets?

go to the "search box" at the top of this page - in the black line and type in "satin binding" and a lot of topics will pop up

I've only used them on cross stitch baby blankets I've done. Although my intention has always been for them to be used, the moms always use them decoratively so have clue as to durability.

I've used them on sewing projects, but never on a quilt. When you marry two different types of fabrics together, they will not stay together as nicely as if you use the same type throughout.
The blankets with the satin binding (you can find it at Joann) that I've made tended to have issues the more they were loved & washed with stitches coming loose or pulling on the satin fabric until it started to fray. The instructions I used called for attaching it with a machine zig-zag stitch.

The satin binding that is now sold is not what it used to be...not really satin. Just some kind of polyester...

I have used it on a baby quilt. Gave it as a gift so I am not sure how it held up.

Susie's right. I think it's called "sateen". At least the stuff I used was.

I have used it for cotton quilts - but it was very slippery and I had a heck of a time - I believe I used a lot of pins to keep it in place.

I used it on my son's baby quilts which were made of flannel. It was a long time ago and when I realized how attached he got to the blanket I made him 3 more just the same, I am sure there is at least one hiding somewhere in the mother has to keep drawer. As I recall I didn't add it as a binding, just sewed around the edges of it. He liked it!

I repaired flannel quilt for a friend's daughter. The whole quilt was in sad shape. The satin binding needed to be replaced because it was worn to shreds.
