Default Skipping quilt stitches

I have a Janome 7700 and all of a sudden stitches are skipping when I try to free motion quilt. No problem using the walking foot foot stitch in the ditch. I've changed the needle, the thread , re threaded the needle, cleaned out the bobbin. Don't like messing with the tension. Any other ideas of what I should try?

Slow down a bit...going too fast does not allow the stitches to ' lock'......

Also be sure that you're not pulling on the fabric, causing the needle to deflect so that it can't form a stitch. Sometimes using a stronger needle will help in this case, but not pulling on the fabric is a better solution.

Change the needle would be my suggestion as well.

I had the same problem last week. I changed needle to a "top stitching needle",had no more problem. Since have been told "jeans needle" would have worked.

If you have the adjustable Janome foot, you may want to adjust it down a bit. The foot should be just skimming the top of the sandwich.

if it's the needle, it might be a matter of size rather than having gotten dull.
if you try all the other suggestions and still have the problem try moving up one needle size.

I agree. Change the needle and slow down if you are trying to speed doing FMQ.

Also, loosen the needle and make sure it's pushed all the way up. When it's not, it will throw the timing off.
