baking soda, sawsan.
I just use self rising flour, and it works out great!
this is a great cake.DH loves it without the icing, and I just ice it when we are having company, or I am giving it away for a gift.

Bicarbonate of Soda is the more scientific name for baking soda. Here in America, it is a widely used leavening agent in baking. Self-rising flour has it included in with the flour already.

My apple cake recipe is similar. Self-rising flour works great not necessary to add soda or salt. I have used different spices for a little different taste, also use pecans. I have also used apple sauce in place of oil, this makes a little heavier cake but the taste is good. This cake freezes good, but not if using apple sauce. I don't always peel the apples.
I am now hungry for cake.
