This morning my husband had a brain storm this morning when he saw my big self-healing rotary cutting mat. He said, "You ought to get another one of those for the kitchen. That would a make a great cutting board." That got me thinking about a Pampered Chef mat that I used to have to roll out pie crusts on...it would be great for that also and a heck of a lot less expensive. Might just have to try it!

If you are planning on using it for food, I would worry about food getting embeded in the tiny grooves.

I don't think our cutting mats are meant to be cleaned and sterilized for food prep. I'd hate for you to come down with a bad case of food poisoning. Some times it really is best to use something for what it's manufactured for.

Good idea! I just bought a new mat and I have been thinking of all the uses for the old one.

I don't think I would use a cutting mat in the kitchen. Cutting mats usually have a strong chemical odor when they are new, so I don't think they are "food grade safe".
Better to be safe...

I agree, for one thing these are made with chemicals which may leach into the food. They may not be able to be sterilized either...

I wouldn't use it in the kitchen, either...because of the chemicals..... :) Have him buy you a bamboo cutting board. Best one I've ever had, only $20.00 for my large one and I'll never have another kind. :) :)

Are they made of food-grade plastic? :? Also, not sure how you'd get the food particles, etc. out of the cuts.
