Bartlett Treadle in Need of a Home
This one is missing the belt (no problem) but is also missing the bobbin case (shuttle). How hard is it to find a shuttle for a random machine and how would you measure for one? Any idea what size needles this would take? DH says we have no room for a treadle so I don't think I could talk him into one that needed work.

that is a "seamstress" model made by National - even though it sort of has the look of a New Home. It takes the same shuttle/bobbin/needles of other National VS machines, so not very hard to get, but only available vintage.
If you get this machine, pm me and I'll send you some supplies for it.
Here is my "Seamstress" sitting next to the similar shaped, but smaller New Home.
for an interesting side note - there is a later made Bartlett that looks very similar but has the wider throat plates (like Singer) and I think that one takes the Singer shuttle and needles. However it takes the National top clamp feet.

Pat,
The CL Bartlett is a nice machine at a great price---don't think it will last long. It uses a 20x1 needle also known as Eldredge flat shank or Boye 14. Most likely it uses the National / Eldredge short shuttle or Boye 13.
$25 for a treadle in good shape is a no brainer. Sort of tempted myself to hop in the car and head to Dover, DE --well almost.
Good Luck

It was originally $30 -- just reduced. I have absolutely NO chance of getting this machine, unfortunately. I think it's very attractive and hope it gets a good home.

Come on Jon, you're just down the road apiece from Dover. Maybe even take a ferry ride just for the heck of it. I have driven through Millville many times on the way down the shore. Go get that beautiful machine at a super price.

Can you work on your husband a bit more? You're not likely to find another treadle in that good of shape for that money again any time soon.
$30 is the same as $25 for that machine-a no brainer. The base and head are in great shape at any price. They're in great cosmetic condition and finding another shuttle takes some effort but it would be well worth it. Can you get it just so it doesn't end up "upcycled" into a tractor?
Macybaby: My first thought when I saw it was "New Home". Thanks for explaining and showing the differences.

I'm hoping a new treadle enthusiast on a low budget gets it. I have way too much stuff and need to decrease the herd. The road trips are awful fun though.
