foot pedal ??
Hi all !! I just became the owner of a 1937 portable singer sewing machine. Model #128 -serial # is AE688565. My question for all of you--------should there be a foot pedal ? There is not one and plug in cord only has the the one cord that plugs into the machine. I do not have a manual. Not sure how to get this thing to sew !! HELP please !!!

Karen,
From your description it sounds like you got a cabinet machine that someone cut the controller wires off of it.
Look behind the three prong cord block and see if there is a couple stubs of wires that were cut. Sometimes people will just cut the controller wire when they remove a machine from the cabinet.
A cabinet machine will have a removeable power cord that plugs in to the block on the machine. The controller, usually a knee controller is hard wired to the back of the cord block.
A portable machine will have a removable cord set with the power cord coming out of one side, and the controller cord coming out of the other side.

It works !!! Searching on ebay I found a machine like mine. It showed a knee controller---yup--- hiding inside the wood cover at the top. Never thought to look for anything there!!!
Now-- does anyone know if I can find a "free" downloadable manual online?
Tomorrow I will take pictures and show you this machine and my little featherweight. I think I am hooked on these older machines !!!!!!
