I haven't dealt with cat pee on a black Singer but for the others I started with Natures Miracle ( a urine odor remover) and spray them well. Then cleaned up as usual.

I had a few that had gotton the treatment from the bulk buy I took in. There were obviously mice in the garage and a hole in the wall where cats could come in. I think they get sprayed because the cats are trying to mark their hunting territory.

The cat may have sprayed because a mouse was living in there...

You know, I always assume that the machines are inside, but you're right, even in a basement and some main levels there are often mice. I -think- my girls love my sewing machines too much to pee on them.

Ahahaha! Ok, I can assure you, they didn't get peed on here! I am only talking 'bout the ones I brought home already anointed. Many of the machines I saw at yard sales this summer had obviously been spending time in the garage or even out in the barn. That seems to be where they are sent when no one is using them but they haven't decided to sell them yet.

With my machines, those awaiting clean-up and work are in the garage, but the ones I have cleaned and serviced are all in the house.

Ok, let’s get down to some facts here.

How can you tell when it’s cat spray and when it’s mouse spray? Is there something in the essence of it? The texture? The color of the rag that mopped it up? The amount of eye-watering when cleaning it up? What?

And how do you know it’s not just a drunken spouse messing with the owner? Or a toddler that is learning how to write his name?

In my experience CD, each situation has it's own unique essence, with the possible exception of the spouse and the toddler. Same species and all...........

Hmmm today has been a SM loser all the way around! I started with my Pfaff 130 wanting to fit it in a cabinet I recently brought home. I'd already cleaned and waxed the cabinet and it looks great however the Pfaff has a terminal sticking out the side and will be wanting a cabinet with the spring loaded panel to the right that lowers with the machine. I hadn't taken that into consideration.

So I pulled out a Singer library table I am futzing with. I bought it for 5 bucks and the insides had been savaged to fit a different machine than intended. That means extra hinge holes and sloppy cuts. I had decided it was changed to fit a Kenmore so I patched one set of holes and straightened out the cuts measuring carefully. It's been sitting in the garage waiting for me to get the paint out. With the patching it can't be stained but it has lovely elements so in a bone to beige color with antiquing it could look nice again. I just finished working on a Kenmore recently and was being lazy about dragging it's bulk over to test the table..but I did. Thank goodness I did. The hinge holes on the back of the Kenmore were too small to accept the hinges! I dug around in my parts bin and found hinges that fit the Kennie but they are larger and longer so it's back to the patching and drill stage again.

I have a MW Signature up on the bench and it's been cleaning up well but the hook was making a scraping noise. I messed with it for a good hour cleaning and polishing and taking off any burrs. I never did get it to work, so back into the parts bin. I found another J-G4 hook, popped it in and it runs smooth. I measured the needle picture on the front of the machine against a 15 x 1 needle and it looked the same to me although there was a voice in my head screaming that couldn't possibly be right. I happened to have the dogs down...I carefully rotated the handwheel a bit and all seemed fine so I engaged the feed dogs, pushed on the foot controller and proceeded to break the needle. *sigh

*off to the garage again to see if the wood filler has hardened yet..
