Default Mar16 1898,model 28 vibrating shuttle just found in my shed

Been there over thirty years, bought at a yard sale while i was working and traveling three week out of every month. Has a Direct drive Motor and a swing away to move it to center for storage, need power cord and few attachments. Would appreciate any info on this , I think it would take a hand crank or treadle ,Does anyone know for sure, I did find manual, and I just got the info from 1 800 474 6437, after waiting 35 min. see photos

Nice! great machine.

1. Yes it will take a Standard Singer handcrank
2. If you post the serial number we can look that up for you. looks like ?5000676
3. You can look it up here yourself in the future - Singer Dating

Great looking machine! I think it's time to take it out of the shed, clean it up, and put it back to work. I love Hamilton Beach motors like yours. That conversion is early enough I would leave it just like it is.
If you do want a hand crank I think I see a motor or handcrank boss on the back. If that's the case hooking it to a handcrank would be incredibly simple. The only difficulty with treadling it is most treadles were made for full size machines, yours is 3/4 size. If you can't find the correct treadle base, you would need to adapt one to fit.

If you want one that can plug into the motor as it's wired - search ebay and cross your fingers. If you are willing to put a different connection on the wire from the motor - most of us get the pedals and cords from Sew Classic.

I agree it is an early machine.... does it have the cast in bosses for the motor mount ? I did not think the very early machine like that had those... I know my 1900 model 27 does not. maybe they were available both ways ?

The easiest way to connect the motor would to buy the cord set from Sew-Classic and put a modern plug on the end of the wires from the motor to plug into it. That style of cord set has been around since at least the 1950s.
Sundial wire sells vintage style plug ends but they're polarized. You would have to file one blade down to fit the outlet block from Sew-Classic-at least they don't look polarized to me.
Unless you're there in person to check if they fit, trying to match the existing connector would be a guessing game at best. Better to either do the first suggestion or buy a set of connectors if you want it to keep the vintage look.
