Pretty sure the 2-tone is a Japanese 15 clone. Maybe a Dressmaker from the looks but a bigger picture would be so helpful. The front one does look like a 301 to me but never seen a 400 up close and personal so it could be either machine.

You got it - it's a 301 - you can see the handle cut out in the top plate. The 401 and 403 have knobs above the light. The 404 doesn't have the cut out for the handle. I bet that table has the 301 basket in it too. You just flip the lever and the machine pops out!

It looks like a green clone behind it.

We have to drive to Paso Robles (about 100+ miles) to get it, but wonderful machine!! It's been in this same family since it was new.

Just gorgeous! Love the flowers!

What a beautiful machine. If it ever needs a new home let me know. Kathie

We were excited to find a Roses and Cornflower decal fiddle base. And the cabinet is just divine!! :-)

The other Janice (and I'm in Texas, too. How confusing!?)

For everyone else, I love this thread. Can't wait to read it every day.
Wish I could find another treadle machine. Love my New Home 1880's treadle. Am attempting to make a miniquilt on it. Such fun! I am looking for a Singer machine. I have four machines but none of them are Singers. Two are vintage and two are modern (I guess) with plastic cases. I have been bitten by the VB (Vintage Bug) and DH is no help.
He loves fire arms so there is no room for criticism!
I have yard saler friends watching for old machines, but they don't really understand what it is we are looking for.
Thanks to all you people who helped me get the old New Home teadle going. Have become addicted, since I can't trail ride my horse any more. Need another outlet!![/quote

Do you have a preference for a vintage Singer? What do you like so far? Some of us are treadlers and some lean more to electric. Some here have turned the electrics to treadles. What model intrigues you? What do you intend to use it for? Do you just do straight stitch? Do you use the decorative stitches? There are a lot of choices.

To Miriam--

I am just looking for the right deal to come along. I had the chance to pick up a Singer in a cabinet this past winter, but we had that heavy snowstorm just at the time my friend had to put her mother in assisted living and was breaking up her apartment. The Machine was in great condition and the cabinet was also good. Came with a bench that had a lift-seat for storage. I was so concerned about our four flat roofs caving in, I just could not think about another piece of furniture. It was free!!!
Now I am kicking myself every time I get on this site.
I really don't need any more machines, but am watching all the yard sales, estate sales and newspaper ads, local CL etc. It is fun just looking and I will probably find something sooner or later. In the meantime, I am having fun looking.

I knew someone would like that! Thank you for saving me from temptation! :)

You guys are passing on the $1,000 German treadle for the cute $75 model?

http://rochester.craigslist.org/atq/2516085386.html

The Pfaff treadle bought in Germany in the late 70s in Wichita is only $100 and in a parlor cabinet. They are going to post pics of the head later today. Don't you'all fight over it. I could pick it up for someone.
