My first project machine, the only thing that moves right now is the handwheel(nothing else moves) and the stitch length lever. Most everything is rusted. It came with an added bonus! Yeah I know but DH says put Ms Franklin in the shop. That is this morning. I'm going after the mystery machine after that. It is in a treadle and she thinks it begins with D and has VERY ornate decals - it was owned by a photographer..... I asked if it was a Damascus but the lady couldn't see the name since it won't raise out of the cabinet.

Will try posting this another way in hopes someone can help me. This is my first treadle machine & I know not what I'm doing. Have been trying to find one like it on the internet but have had no luck. All I can get is mostly singer machines. I mostly would like to know where and what kind of needles and bobbins to try to find for it. The only needle & bobbin I have is what came with it. Found a bag of parts yesterday with a shuttle and some bobbins and other stuff in it (price was right) but they are to short. Can someone take me under their wing and help me out please?

ONLY, clean the machine with sewing machine oil. It will clean up. You can use Bar Keepers cleaner for the rusty metal parts just don't get it on the rest of the machine.

For the treadle irons, wipe of with damp clothe, let dry, and then wipe with oil. That should be enough to get it ready for treadling for now.

Needles and bobbins can be found on ebay. Treadle belt can be found at some sewing stores or on ebay.

OH, and use lots of cottonballs with sewing oil to clean over the decals too! Don't want to damage the decals with a rough towel. And the dirt that is picked up onto the cottonball can scratch the decals; so, use once and get a clean cottonball. You are going to go through at least a bag of them.

Thank you for the info! My Vindex Special will be the first vibrating shuttle since I was about 6 years old. I don't have a real good memory of it - it was a hand crank machine. I am looking forward to spring when I can clean mine out in the yard. I need to shoot it and try to post pics. I don't think it is all that ornate - not when you look at some of the 66s and others but mine has some neat decals. I can't wait for Iris to see it too. Maybe she knows how to work the shuttle.
