Do any of you carry insurance on your machines?
and how do you come up with a value?
as I don't know of anyone to appraise these.
I am going to go thru and itemize the machines I have later today, with pics and serial #'s. then I can go online and try to find similar machines and sale prices,
But if this one is so rare most likely won't find it.
any suggestions?

I never have put a value on my collection and I might need to after I figure out whats going on after my month long trip. this would make for an interesting thread because we are gathering quite a bit of really nice machines and even though we have been buying low you know they are worth well over what we paid for them.

As for the rarities I have no idea as to what to value them at, the only thing I can think of is finding an appraiser and let them have a shot at it or go to Antiques Roadshow with said machine in tow LOL!!

I have a 66 with Lotus decals, and you said earlier (before I cleaned it up) that it looked like it might be the brown version. I have been staring at Needlebar pictures of the Brown Lotus and the Egyptian Lotus and for the life of me I can't see much difference. Is it just that the left side of the stem is more brown than yellow? If that's the case, I have a Brown Lotus!!! These are pictures of the machine after all the work. There are still some things that didn't turn out nice and shiny. A lot of the pieces that I thought should be shiny (such as some knobs, bobbin cover plate) are dull brown. Any idea why that is?

That one looks brown but I almost have to have them side by side to tell. The stems on the regular ones are Orange. I dont know how the Brown came about, if they had a mess up with ink used on that particular run on the decals or what.

If the parts are dull then its the nickle wearing on them. just polish them the best that you can with Mothers Mag Wheel Polish or SemiChrome. That should help a lot right there.

Nice box of attachments that are a bit rusty. Now to read the manual. :D :D :D

Thanks Billy

Wow! Nice and enjoy!

Will have to check out their website(antiques Roadshow)
I think that they have a list of appraisers

Insurance is important as with my husbands collection if you don't have documentation, pictures and an experienced appraisal you can't get back what it's worth!

and after a loss isn't the time to find out!
obviously the auctioneers im my area will be no help as they saw no value in this machine!

thanks

Thanks Anna, Missy is one of three. She is the one that helps with everything I try to do. I have to be real careful when running power tools because they don't even scare her off. I am always scared that she will get cut from the rotary cutter when she jumps up on the table.

I am sure the look was due to me paying too much attention to the machine instead of her. So Billy you must be prepared to contend with that when you look at the machines in the house. They don't go in the garage so you will be safe there.
