Yes, it's mother of pearl and a good looking SM. Your and Janice's Davis' are on the cusp of the move but seperated by 20,000 machines. The value of having the serial number of one of the first machines made in Dayton is that it is an excellent reference point since we know Dayton started production in late '89 or early '90. Plus we could probably figure out whether your machine was made in '88 or '89 (my money's on '89).

Not that all this is terribly important but I have an awful lot of fun with it.

Jon

I have fun with it too...and older age is not as important to me as the actual year of manufacture....it's like a puzzle...and I like puzzles!! :)

I just got back from the emergency vet after leaving our Jack Russell all hooked up to a bunch of tubes. She's was rattlesnake bit on the lip. Silly dog is always hunting, but this time she met the wrong prey. Anyway, she is spending the night, and who knows how long, at the vets. Luckily, she just had her rattlesnake booster shot last week - so she should heal up alright. Now I have the hebejeebeee's about rattlesnakes here on our property! Poor little dog - she was in a lot of pain with extremely swollen lips! I hate snakes!

Wow, Interesting stuff! Ok Jon can you tell me about what year my Davis Vertical Feed was produced - serial # 767,313?

Nancy

Before Jon answers you Nancy, I'm going to try with a guess, and then he can correct me! :)

Looking at the database for the Davis VF yahoo group, I'd venture a guess of 1899/1900, since there's a machine registered on the database with a receipt dated 8/11/1898 with a serial #697797, and the next machine on the list has a dated receipt of 10/19/1900 and a serial #780429.

Poor baby!! I'm sorry she's going thru that, and sorry that you're having to worry about her and having heebie-jeebies on top of it!!

Sounds good to me. I'd go with 1900 since Davis could easily make 13000 machines in 10 months.

Yes, A new Yahoo group that includes all Davis machines not just the VF's. Not much chat mainly serial numbers and informative articles and ads about the company.

Nancy, sorry about your little dog. I am afraid of snakes here too. Our dog was bit last summer and left a hole in this side for a while. All is healed now.

Jon, here is another Davis serial number to look for when you look for Nancy's. Our oldest Davis serial number is 457488.
pat. date on face plate is May 20, 1876.

Charlee 05-01-2012 06:12 AM

Trish, my guess for yours would be 1890/91....but let's see what Jon says! :)

Yikes, Nancy! I'm happy to say all we get is Garter snakes here in the Sac. area. But, I almost put my hand in a glove that had a black widow nested in it. Eeeeeek.

Just an FYI, that 301 longbed, ebay auction closed so you may be getting an e-mail "So, sorry we were out of town..." hahaha.
