I got my sewing machine fix today ,, Ok I did dicker, cause I knew the guy would enjoy that , he had 10$ I said he said 7.50 Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ? what did ya say 6 . nope 7.50 . This was a hardcore seller...he took every quarter I had ..

I would have given him 7.50 for the oil can in the goodie box...the little chorme type,, I had to clean teh foot pedal contacts to get a full range out of it ,,, figure that it takes a very short needle, and man, this things sew's so good,,,, I have never seen a push buttom reverse,,,
that button with the red R ,, push it in she backs up.. let go and she going forward just like magic.

It's zz ,, dedicated left hand,, put on a standard foot, it's centered... The lights under the hood , the dot on the hood glows red with the light on....

there is no serial or model numbers,, it is the japanese dressmaker.. In the goodie box is a state tax stub from 1948, maybe 15 bobbins, all the normal attachments.. evry spool of thread is wooden with names like star and j&p coats .... would j&p coats , be coats & clark ??

It has to be late 40's to early 50's
and it matches my monkey ward streamliner ..

That Dressmaker looks a lot like the 1960s car dash/radio stuff.

I have two Japanese ZZ machines that park the needle to the left. One is a Dial 'N Sew high shank, the other a Domestic low shank. I found an off set straight stitch foot for the Dial 'N Sew at my LSMG and the Domestic came with attachment that included an off set SS foot.
Using these feet for straight stitching makes it much easier for me to get a consistently straight seam.
These feet are both wide enough to cover the feed dogs too.

Check with your LSMG for feet.

I have kerosene ................... 2 whole gallons of it.
With it I'm going to:

A: fill up all my lamps

B: finish cleaning up underneath the bed of my Minnesota. Very very much old dried oil.

C: finish cleaning up and flushing out the rust from my rusted up 99K. Then since I have all the parts, Rusty will be reassembled and he will sew again.
I'll have to find him a case but to test run him I can borrow the one from my other 99K, Lady Godiva.

Rose, yes and no! No the painters tape is not over the feed dogs. Kassidy is making a rag quilt, which requires a 1/2 seam allowance - for clipping later. Yes, to make a 1/4 seam the right feed dog would be covered with a true left hand position needle. You know, to sew garments we always used a 5/8" seam, so not being able to do a 1/4" was not a problem with people who made clothes etc.! It would be a problem with a quilter - I am not sure how that situation was handled - I agree, I don't see how you could do a 1/4" seam on a dedicated left position machine? This is my first left needle position machine - it is different, but if I were still making clothes, doing weddings, etc., it wouldn't matter! It only matters now that I am a quilter!

Joe, why the kerosene lamps - just in case the power goes off?

The one problem with the 99's - 66's, is that those buggers won't stand alone so you can sew with them! I have 4 - 66's that are not in a case, and one Spartan. I can't sew with any of them because they don't sit alone - they have to be in a case or cabinet! I think Singer goofed on that score! I know Glenn loves his 66's and does a lot of sewing on them, but I have never sewn with any of mine - so I don't really know how well they sew! A couple of my 66's are the later models (66-14 to 66-24) with reverse too!

Jon Jon Jon - a speeding ticket when you went to pick up the Davis? Yes, that was an expensive machine, but you couldn't have gotten the treadle from e-bay, and the machines off of e-bay become much more expensive if they are shipped properly! My only experience with buying a machine off e-bay was a little portable 99 - Occupied in Japan - machine. I wanted one machine with the Occuppied In Japan signature just because - it arrived with the case all broken up and the machine scratched up! DH was able to repair the case, but the scratches on the little 99 will stay. I tried touching them up with appliance touch up - it looked great until I cleaned the machine - then it wiped right off!

Notsureif, that Dressmaker looks alot like my Sterling, but the bobbin winder is on top - more like a modern machine. I like the color and looks of the Dressmaker! Also, it looks like someone put one of those pin cushion cloths around the machine - there are little scatches - the tell tale sign of pins being stuck in! I hate seeing that on a machine! I can't understand why people did that to their machines, but it seems like that was an accepted technique for a while!

Jennb, I saw the photos you posted in the photo shop of your 301 and Rocketeer! Those are two of my favorite machines! Those Rocketeers are really fun to do decorative stitches with, and the 301 is becoming one of my favorite machines to piece with!

Grannysewer, why are calling your machine a treadle machine?

Bojangles, because it has no motor and I can't find one for it. The 401G has the bobbin winder on top and needs a different motor. Miriam and Cranky showed me how it could be a treadle. Miriam posted pics of hers as a treadle and so for now mine will be too. Until I can find a motor anyway. Thanks for asking. Bobbie
