It's been a long time since I've put one on, but I remember some sort of clips that hold the top on. There's probably a picture of how they go on somewhere on the internet--everything else is here!!Quote:

Hi!
I located an Adler/Belvedere from the 1960's. On another site someome said it is hard to get parts. Does anyone know any thing about this particular badged machine? Hope someone does. :-D :-D :-D
Here is one you probably haven't heard before.
I hosted a fund raiser yard sale in my driveway during our local community-wide yard sale, today. We raised a nice bit of change for a scholarship fund.
Well, last night while folks from our program were dropping off donations to be sold, I went out to help one lady bring in boxes to store in my garage for the next morning.
Along with a number of cartons we carried in, there was a little cloth covered box that reminded me a bit of an old portable record player. I eyed it suspiciously and asked her what it was she was donating.
Yep, right, you got it. Somebody brought a Featherweight TO . . . My yard sale!
I have been watching all the online lists and visiting thrift stores and antique shops for the past three years watching for a featherweight cheap enough and near enough not to have to ship. . . and it walks into my garage.
Go figure.
She had been storing the machine quite a few years for one of her daughters. She is an old friend who doesn't sew and knew I pieced quilt tops. But, she viewed the 221J as a hand-me-down old sewing machine a neighbor lady had given her daughter many years ago.
You know Antiques Road Show when people's jaws drop and then they freak out after they have learned they possess a treasure? She did manage to calm me down and insisted that I sit and play with the machine for a while. I was told that I looked like I needed a rest after the shock of the discovery.
Yes, I bought my first featherweight from my own yard sale :-)
You lucky devil you. Way to go :) and congrats on the new treasure :)
I emailed the seller and told him I didn't think it was an authentic factory finish. His reply was that he purchased it at an Estate Sale and that it was genuine.Quote:

Wow AARDVARQ! What a lucky garage sale! Tell us the year and post a picture of your new treasure! Way to go! That just tells the rest of us that they are out there -- not everyone knows what they have! Any one of us could find a FW at a yard sale!
Do you guys/gals know anything about the Elna Supermatic? My brother-in-law just got one. Any information would be helpful!

I have started having a clear out in my sewing room and finally unearthed my hand crank Singer 99k. Now I can't find a date for it, could anyone help please? Serial number is EM734967. I suspect it is a late one, because it has the case that looks more like a suitcase, not a nice roll top one, but it would still be nice to know. (It also has Simanco 33681 underneath, with perhaps another digit below that, which looks like a 7)
As an aside, I was delighted to see that it has some of the attachments that my FW didn't come with. Will they fit, does anyone know? Many thanks.
EM- 701008 to 751007, model 99K, 50000 allotted, August 29 1957Quote:
