Ok Monica, I did some more research and it is hard to figure out, but I think the colored models were made in the 1950's and before? I am really curious if you know the year of your machine. Did your sister get the machine new as a gift? I wish I had the original manual or paperwork with this machine! According to research there is a rare blue one and RED one that are very sought after because of the colors! I'd love to find a red one!

Charlee says her Sewhandy is from around 1953 because of the date on her manual (I think she said manual). Anyway, does anyone else have a SewHandy in a color on here?

Actually, my 319w treadles pretty easily. It is just when you treadle all day - you feel it! The hardest/best workout machine I have to treadle is my Davis Vertical Feed, but I have a pre 1900 Davis - around 1886 - it is not an easy one to treadle, but I love that machine! I don't mind the workout - I love the fact that I can be sewing all day and getting some exercise at the same time. I don't want to make the 319w easier to treadle, nor the Davis. One of these days maybe, but for now I enjoy the workout!

Miriam the larger wheel sounds interesting, but I don't mess with my machines if I don't have to. I like them the way they were originally designed! Let us know if you try the larger wheel!

I only have the one toy, but I keep looking at others...especially where space is an issue, these little girls will fit ANYWHERE! I also keep my eyes open for a c-clamp. Those are commonly missing with these machines. I think that once little girls lost interest in the machine, "Daddy" stole the clamp for his tool box!!

I am home recuping from the 24 hour intestinal flu bug. The worst is over and rested well during the night so am wide awake and catching up! Oh, those little machines are just so cute!! I'd love to have one, but I have to do some major cleaning out. Those who are giving vintage machines as gifts...do you know the recipient wants one? I'd love to give each of my kids one...that's why I've been gathering them,...but I'd hate to give one for Christmas and find out they hated it. Guess I kinda thought that when I'm gone they each could pick one and remember how much I loved them and would love it because of me. Hmmm...I'd love to give 'em away now. I'll put some thought into that.
I am planning on giving away a piano and organ. I used to love playing, but hardly ever play anymore...arthritis makes my finger knuckles achy after playing. None of my kids play, so I'm thinking a young church gal might like one for Christmas. I'll be posting that this week.
I think it might be time to rest a bit again. TTYL!!

Nancy, My machine's manual has copyright date of 1953. The box is well worn, but looks the same as yours and Charlee's.

This machine may be a German Lion, but I wonder how rare it really is? It looks like a Japanese Clone model 15 from the late 40's/50's?

Candace I am not up on the swastika, but I know the Nazi's used that design. According to the dictionary, the Nazi's used that design with the arms bent clockwise.

The swastika was also an ancient design and mystic symbol in the form of a cross with four equal arms, each bent to the right angle.

I know nothing about the swastika, but the design on the bed of the machine looks like lions? Is that the swastika? I don't really see any arms?
