Thank you, Irisrose, it looks like nice wood, but I don't know much about cabinets, and the woods that were used.

ArchaicArcane, I've been reading a lot about Restor-A-Finish, and Feed'N'Wax. I thought maybe painting everything, but the top and drawer and leaving that the color of the wood. I've just been removing the finish, that is on there for now.

Thank you both very much for your imput,
Anamaria

Wash it with Murphy's Oil Soap and fine steel wool. Of course, you wipe it dry right away. Then if the paint comes off easily, you can move to the Howard's products. I refinished a vintage dressing table with Howard's products in the walnut. It looks good. Or would if I could find a antique brass handle with a ruby colored insert with holes 4" OC.

Miriam, an acidoliphlus product from the natural food store refrigerated case is much stronger than any yogurt available.

Agreed. That doesn't look like particularly bad wood so making it look like wood shouldn't be too bad. I'm kind of fond of the wood top over dark painted base look if the base can't easily be made to look like nice wood.

Wilbur, the solemn little man, will be 3 in November - don't you love his curly hair? His momma raises goats and makes yogurt. We won't know much more until Friday. Pray for the rest of the family too. Mom and Dad haven't had much sleep lately. The girls worry about Wilbur. The baby doesn't know what is going on - he's Walter and that little clown will be a year the end of November.

Yes, that red curly hair and his blue eyes make him adorable! So Miriam is your daughter naming all her kids something that starts with a 'W?' Walter and Wilbur, Wilma, and Wyonna? One of our kids named all 5 of his boys names that start with a 'D'.

This super bug thing is so scary. I guess they think it has happened because of all the mis-use of antibiotics!

I have already and will continue to pray for Wilbur. Don't let the MDs shove you back and forth as they are inclined to do. There are MDs that specialize in infectious diseases and he may need one of them. I'm sure Indy has them so start asking your friends if they know one and were satisfied with the care they received just in case the family and ENT MDs are stymied. IU Med Ctr (Riley, I think it was, back in the day when I grew up there) or Methodist Childrens Pavillion would be a good place to look IF that type of doctor is needed. Staff MDs, with their specialty, should be listed on the website for each place. My prayer is that it is a simply treated infection that just got ahead of the MDs. I remember having a very similar thing when I was a kid (before antibiotics were common) and fortunately the causative agent was simply impetigo that got up in my sinuses and all over my body. Our love and hugs to you ALL.

Hi Nancy, I've seen that ad, the machine looks real pretty, but I don't like the cabinet. I really do prefer the plain wood. But, my wood finishing skills are zero. I thought painting would be easier, and I also want to stick with water based products.
I would love to find a yellow, green or pink machine, but I have only seen the blue color it must have been very popular,

Miriam, I have been keeping Wilbur and the rest of your family in my prayers since I read about his illness. After all, all of you are going through this with him. Please keep us informed as to how he's doing.

Hi. 38389 posts - I was surprised when I found this forum the other day. Lots of great information here. You all have a very nice forum. Let me introduce myself. The name is Mike and I am in Clearwater, FL. Retired. One hobby is making stuff for motorcycles, dogs, and even people sometimes. Seats, grocery bags, covers. My first machine was a Consew which I had to restore to get working. So I figured out how these gizmos work and got 'hooked' on restoring. I use the Consew for leather and heavy materials. It's great for motorcycle seats, etc. Also I like garage sales, and that way I started buying old sewing machines and fixing them up. It's one thing I like to do.

So I am pleased to meet all of you and hope to be helpful as I learn.

I saw a post back a few pages about finishes. I did a lot of woodfinishing and prefer shellac. If anyone is interested in the way I french polish then let me know. I do use urithane though. Not a purist.
