Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
Fizeos, IF you like to treadle, then the treadle irons can be cleaned up. They look pretty! You can make another top for the irons and drop another machine in, like a Singer. It looks like the Pfaff treadle petal is set off to the left so that it sits under the sewing needle area and not the center of the machine. Singer treadles are centered under the center of the machine. Some folks prefer the treadle to be centered to the left as this one is, or like the Whites. Pretty treadle irons that needs a good cleaning, Enjoy!

Jackie, several years ago, I purchased a VS2 with roses, cornflowers and daisies. It looked quite a bit like your photo. EXCEPT the veneer came off like dust when you touched it. It now has new veneer on the cabinet top and the coffin top which I stained to match the rest of the cabinet (drawers) after I had followed Glenn's tutorial on restoring the cabinet and the machine. I took everything I could off of the machine and de-rusted, oiled, polished everything. It sews beautifully. My husband tore down the irons and repainted all the parts. I got new bobbins from Sew Classic as well as a new belt. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out and a professional woodworker was amazed that I was able to match the color of the new veneer with the old wood. You can do it and have fun with it. Good luck.
Got a quick question on a fiddle base treadle. I have never seen one in person but found one on Kijiji and was wondering if you can dismantle them? For instance, can you sewing machine off the base? I tried to look for hinges but it is hard to see in the pictures. Also if need be, can I take the irons off the table?

Thanks for any advice.

I have taken the tops off the irons so it would fit in the car. Reassembling can be tricky if you are good with tools and take pictures of where everything goes.

Jackie why do you want to dismantle that VS2 fiddlebase Singer? The cabinet looks like it could easily be lightly sanded and refinished? The decals called the Rose and Cornflower are still really nice for a pre 1900 machine! I'd get that baby, clean it up a little and use it!

I've got a question. I have a puzzle box for a Singer 27. I took it to quilt guild to show a friend and she was wondering what one of the attachments was, so we looked in the book. It is an underbraider. She said she had one in her puzzle box too, and wondered how it worked. I told her that most of the attachments from the 27 should work on any low shank machine. She was wondering if the underbraider of the Singer 27 will work on a Featherweight. Does anyone know?

Along those lines..... I was wondering if a walking foot for the FW will work on my 15.
Sorry Janis, I don't the answer to your question but I would guess that it would work. The FW is a low shank machine. Likewise, I think the FW and 15 parts should be interchangeable as well. But, I'd like to know from those that have experienced using them on both.
