So, essentially, I needed help every step of the way and found it with the help of very generous people on this board! (and there was a lot of hand-holding and encouragement that went on too, thank you
)
I should also mention that the "cleaning and restoring furniture" thread helped me with the very grungy base and thanks to Glenn the base is as smooth as silk and very beautiful. (Bentwood top still needs work)
So, this is a thank-you to everyone, and also an encouragement to those who might be about ready to give up -- you can get by with a little help from your friends!
