I got the kitty blocks out of the way and now its back to working on block #22. Those little teeny flower petals are trying my patience. (what patience you say???) I have to admit that my points are not quite as "pointy" as I would like on these.

Don't forget I made my leaves on that one a bit fatter - it makes it easier to get the points because there is more room to tuck under the seam allowances.

Patti, have to admit I am working on that one a bit at a time, they are tiny and if you are doing 7" blocks heaven only knows how you are coping. I do a couple of leaves and then do another bit of another block. got two more to do but I am getting there

You guys are scaring me. I'm getting ready to start on #22 and it looks hard. I'm thinking of making the leaves a little bigger like Lesley did, so maybe that will help.

Lesley, Or anyone who is in the Know. Please explain the purpose of cutting out behind the applique? When I press the piece, it becomes flat in the middle. Thanks Trish B

Well I will take this one up as I seem to be the only one around and the reason is to stop the build up of material. It makes it easier to quilt if you have only 1 layer. some of those blocks have 3 layers of fabric so it does help to cut the backs away.

Hope that helps.

Yup, what she says. I never would have thought of doing that, but I'm glad I am. And some of the lighter fabrics I'm using seem to look "cleaner" with nothing behind them.

Block 8 would have 5 layers in places (not counting the little circle in the middle) if you didn't cut any away behind, and it is how I was taught to do it. The blocks won't seem so stiff to handle either, though that isn't really a consideration if you are only making this as a wall hanging.

I attended the Australasian Quilt Convention yesterday and bought a few more supplies - template plastic, a pinking rotary blade (thought that would be handy) and a nice little Bali Pop for variety.

That was after meeting a group of ladies from the Board for a late breakfast.

All in all a very satisfying day. :-D
