The FWS 30"s Quiltalong Week 30 Block 59 Mary & Block 60 Mary Gray
#22
I should have my Mary finished today to post, and start Mary Gray. I was working on sewing two tiny pieces together when I started just to see they didn't come out with a complete coverage by a fraction all due to my trying to save fabric which was silly on such a tiny piece. I have found out that is more likely to happen with the triangles. I have learned my lesson. It was no big deal, but I could have had more sewn by not being so frugal. lol...
I really like this block, and the Mary Gray looks interesting too.
I really like how blocks are different in some way that makes the next one I come to interesting, and not just doing the same one over and over. Now I understand why samplers are so much fun to work on.

I noticed a couple of times mine were off by that fraction because I sewed them together different than the way I cut them. when this happened it was always triangles. I now turn them several times to make sure they cover.

Here's my Mary Gray. What an easy, fun pattern this one was! I decided to use 2 fabrics/colors for the background. I used the wrong pattern piece when I was cutting the background fabric, so I made a second block to use up those pieces. I'll only use one of the blocks in my FW quilt.

Very pretty blocks, Givio. I was just reading about the quilt layouts and since I'm making all the blocks, I'll probably be making the queen size and that one takes 94 blocks, so I can choose which five to eliminate. Although I'm making it, I have a feeling one of next week's blocks, May, won't make the cut. I'm reminded of JanRN's comments about Y-seams.

Givio, very nice; posting them together shows how two different looks can be achieved with the same pattern, just using different fabric placement. Very pretty. Thanks for the info and offer on the background fabric in your previous block. I'm going to a sewing & quilting expo next Thursday and like to stock up on background fabrics and blenders.

Pam, I gave up trying to se your blocks; they don't show on my computer. First photos ever that did not show up. Don't know why.
I have not done the Mary\s yet...pp pattern is cut out. Will try to take pictures as I do the Y seams coming up; maybe between Honchey and myself, others might be encouraged to 'try' it...
Window washing, laundry, and roasting meat is on the agenda today.

Givio your blocks are so pretty, and yes the different fabrics shows what can make a difference in the same block.
Ok, I ended just now getting to post of picture of my 'Mary' block. Last night I had her all done except when I went to put the last section together I seen that I had cut off the seam allowance on that strip section. It was due to my being tired and too stubborn to just go ahead and go to bed. lol.. I look forward now to the 'Mary Gray' block. I took the picture turned different than I meant to.
Here is 'Mary'
How the one tiny side triangle ended up short I have no idea. lol... I call them my "God Mark." It means to me that no one is perfect but God so anything I make that I find a little thing like that I call it my "God Mark," and then I just smile.
QuiltingNinaSue, I hope you do give tips or pictures on the y-seams. I have to do that one, because my birthday is in May and so is Mother's Day. I have to do that one and the coming later Mother one in honor of my dear mother.
