The FWS 30's Quilt-Along Week 17 Block 33 Farmer's Wide & Block 34 Fern
#12
I'm not going to make Farmer's Wife at this point in time. I'm not keen on the pattern. I might change my mind later. Earlier, someone suggested the Broken Dishes pattern and I'm going to substitute that block instead. Here it is.

Aren't we having fun? It's fun to see everyone's blocks and how they use the patterns with their own fabric.
You might like this note I found: "A pdf containing the corrections for The Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt can be obtained by sending a request to: [email protected]" You can also request rotary cutting instructions for the blocks of her first FWS book.

Givio, I created the Rotary Cutting instructions that the first book didn't have...They were posted here on the board with each week's set of blocks..
Someone from the Yahoo group made the pping patterns available on that site which no longer exist? Anne

Anne, good job with that! I like rotary cutting. It's such an improvement over a scissors! Mostly I've used the templates so far. Occasionally I like to paperpiece, but with that method more often than not I feel I'm wasting fabric, or if not wasting it, then sewing a mistaken too small seam allowance. I read somewhere that some people are cutting the pieces of the paperpiece patterns out, in order to use the paper pieces for the English paper pieceing method.

I have also done that..The first block of the Pony club quilt was a horse and I did that one in the Epp way and found that because of the bias the block isn't as stable as if I did it the normal pping way.. It stretched an awful lot..
