I was just reading through the directions and am a bit confused about step 2.

"Speed piece the half squares by stacking a Color 1 and Color 2 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip right sides together and all edges aligned." - This, I get. But then:

"On the back of the top strip lightly draw in the 4-7/8" square line, and draw in the diagonals as shown at left."

Not quite sure what they want me to do here. Perhaps my English isn't up to scratch, or maybe I'm just not getting it. Can anyone tell me what they mean?

They want you to draw a line down the center of the 9-3/4" strip, which makes it into two 4-7/8 squares. You then draw a line diagonally from corner to corner of each square. You then sew 1/4 each on each side of the line, then cut the squares apart on the drawn lines, and you will have 4 half-square triangles. Many of us increase the size of the strips to 5" x 10" and then after cutting the squares apart we trim up the blocks instead of messing around with the 4-7/8" measurement. I hope this helps.
