I made the basket block and it's NOT 9 1/2 " finished. It's just over 9 1/4". If you make cut the outer pieces a bit larger you should be ok. I hate this It's paper piecing so you can't do anything about those measurements. It should not be that hard to make a foundation pattern the right size.

Got all my pieces cut last night for all the blocks, I find it easier for me to get everything cut and then start sewing. Just started on block #14. I like to do things in order it's kind of a phobia of mine I guess. However if I get stuck or frustrated I will move on to the next one and come back to the hard ones. Thanks anael for the heads up on the basket block. I love paper piecing.

I said it wrong, the block is not 9 1/2 " so not 9" finished. I'm sorry for the confusion.

I'm working on block 16 now. When you don't remove the paper from the paper piecing you don't need to iron freezer paper on the large white triangles. The paper piecing paper gives you the perfect seams. I think it's easier without freezer paper. I hope it's clear what I mean!

This is great. I am sorry I didn't pay attention in January.

So I´m working on block 14. When you follow the motto ´cut it big and whack it off´ you will end up with a lot of waste. Really a lot, look at the picture! What you need for the HSTs are 2 3/8 squares. Of course you can cut them bigger but almost 1 inch too big is way too much IMHO.

I have not yet started the second group for February. Jury duty is finally over, so I hope to get the cutting done this afternoon. I'll make a rotary cutting chart for each block and piece them traditionally. Most nights I have been coming home too tired to think through all the measuring and math. Today just feels like the right day to tackle it.

Thanks for the heads up on this set. The only thing I've done so far is select the fabric I want for each. I didn't even enter my sewing room yesterday!

I'm a bit disappointed in two things about this quilt. One is that we are getting wrong block sizes out of paper pieced patterns. The other is the amount of waste in some of their methods. That pic that Anael showed of the waste on her HST's is well outside what I would expect.

Just a bit disappointed mind you ... I'm still enjoying it

Headed off to the sewing room now. Hopefully I'll have at least one block finished by the end of the day.

OK ... working on Block 14. Thanks Anael. I cut my squares to 2.5" because I do prefer to trim my finished HST's down a smidge. I then finished one pinwheel and again had just a smidge to trim to the 3.5 size.
