Oh, practice is so important. This BOM is the first and only time I have ever done this technique. I really need practice. I call this English paper torture.

Carol - for your first try you really did a great job. The colors are wonderful together too.

Rural101 your block came out beautiful! I found that I learned lessons on each PP project :)
Thomp106 nice choice of fabrics, also beautiful block! Jenniky, love your QAYG block! Beautiful!! |
Thanks Tweety, Its not spectacular, Really need Batiks to make this pattern shout, Im here. I did the blue background to designate sky. And then the flare of white, yellow and red. The fabrics look great with all the other blocks in the BOM quilt so far, but definitely does not have the pizzazz the Batiks bring to the square. :)

Here's my block, just finished today. And, like Rural, this was my first attempt at paper piecing. Hopefully if I do another one, the seams will line up!

labeelady - your first pp block turned out just beautiful. Great Job!!!
|
Vagavondindigo: What a creative use of special stitches. Gives me inspiration to try someday.
|
stichinluvr: Party! My first thought upon seeing your block. Summer parties were always the most fun.
|
Missgigglewings: love the fussy cutting you did on that batik; gives movement to the sun's rays.
|
Judy, wow!! love those colors.
|
Carol: great job! The work is wonderful. Thanks for trying - and succeeding so well.
|
Kris: Perfect! Captured that summertime feeling.
|
Jenniky: Love your quilting. Makes the rays POP.
|
Love it! Those extra stars popping out of the corners are great.
|
Sorry I ran away for a while. I'm back and Everyone's blocks perks me up a lot. I just love all of your work and ideas. Smiling now.

Thanks, Sulabug and Jeanine for your nice comments!
Thanks also go to that nice tutorial I found on youtube. The pumpkin fabric I used in the block came from Vogue Fabrics in Evanston IL. I had a chance to go there last week during a layover between trains. I could have spent all day going through their remnant bin! |
WOW you all made such gorgeous blocks! I had a great time looking :D
I should start on my block too but I have to finish a quilt first. So I guess it will be the end of this week or next week but I will finish before the end of this month :D |
great blocks! And you ladies that did this as your first attempt at PP- I'm very impressed! Its not any easy one for a 1st.
I just started last night. Have been away from home with grands for 2 weeks! |
Thanks for all the comments on my block! Looks like everyone had a good time capturing the feel of August!

Carol.........What an excellent paper pieced block for your first try!! :D I am so proud of you for trying & making such a nice block. I promise you that the more you try this method, the more you are going to like it!! :D When I tried my first one I thought what a disaster, but stayed with it & now I prefer pp'ing over any other methed. Thank you for sharing your wonderful block with all of us today. Nice Work.
:D :D :D :D |
Helen T. thanks for your kind words. You are right--there is no better way to learn than simply by doing. PP is interesting. I don't think I'd like to do a whole quilt with this block, but I look forward to my next PP project.

Sorry, but I just don't enjoy paper piecing that much, so I just did a sunny block. All the nice posted blocks are beautiful though. I have alot going on right now, so needed a simple block.
|
VickiM: I love your block! It is sunny and in the spirit of summer. Very creative.

Since I got to make my August block early, I had the urge to start putting my blocks together. Since I decided I wanted a square quilt, I am adding a center block which have wreaths for each season.

Vicki, Love your block. After doing 1 block (and I love PP), and only half finishing another (I'm doing 3 of these for grands) I wish I'd changed course just for the time factor.
Jeanine, All your blocks are pretty. I haven't thought that far ahead :D Joyce T |
