Leaving out one of the design elements

The blocks that don't highlight one of the design elements are very interesting. A totally different look! Thanks everyone for sharing - they are all great.

Hi QuilterMomma. I'm also Western WA (on the Peninsula to be specific); we've already have 3 inches and it is still snowing.

JudyG 01-17-2012 03:55 PM

My BIL sent us some pictures of what it's doing in Sequim - sure glad I'm not there. And my boss has closed our office for probably the rest of the week in Port Angeles. Glad to be here in Arizona.

Hi everyone,
Would you believe it, but so far no snow yet!! :D It is still in the forecast for later this evening & into tomorrow. I am hoping that we don't get snowed in, here in Yakima. I hope everyone is staying warm & safe. I will keep you posted.
:D :D :D :D

Jeanine 01-17-2012 06:02 PM

Close to 4 inches here. The trees and plants were all laden with snow. Actually was quite pretty. Then the sun came out and began to melt it. But, Schools are closed tomorrow, so my office is closed too. (our rule is if the schools think it is too dangerous out there on the roads, so do we). Nice. I even get paid. Nicer. Another snow day, yipee! Don't fret Sulabug, I'm sure it is coming your way soon.
Jeanine

January 2012 BOM

I love the Snowblossoms block. Can't wait to start after a long absence from the board. My computer has been down for several months and I finally got the money to have it repaired. Missed everyone while I was gone. Hope everyone is well and enjoying this winter weather (or at least trying to hang in there til Spring).

My Snow Blossom Block

2 Attachment(s)
Here is my Snow Blossom. I have also posted a picture of my oopsy block. Lesson: do not rush through a sewing project late at night just to finish it because you have to be a work early in the morning and won't have time to finish it before work!
I really like the idea of calendar blocks. Think I may make a couple for gifts.

Which of the 2 blocks go in the gift one??? Your braver than me to show your blooper block.

lawsonmugs 01-18-2012 05:20 PM

Thanks I enjoyed seeing both and actually like them both.

Jeanine 01-18-2012 06:55 PM

AddieLou: The second one looks artistic, like snowblossom night and day.
Thanks for showing us both.

Deecee 01-18-2012 10:28 PM

I quite like the offset look of your oopsy block.

Addie Lou..........Both of your Snow Blossom blocks are wonderful!! :D What pretty fabric's you have used in putting them together. Your fabric with the snowflakes is my very favorite. You have a great idea of making extra Calendar blocks to make gift's, when they are all done. Way to go, girl!! :D The second block posted looks just perfect for a day & night star look. You just have to use it. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us here on the quilting board.
:D :D :D :D

lovelyl 01-19-2012 05:14 AM

I love your block. I also like your "blooper" block - I think you could use it successfully in the right quilt!

AddieLou 01-19-2012 08:33 AM

hahah thanks, everyone! I couldn't believe that I didn't even notice it until it was all done and I stepped back to look at it! I took of the two pieces that weren't right and fixed it so the mistaken one is no more. I will try to use those pieces in something else.

I am already looking forward to the February block. I've been in a slump and I hope the BOM and forum will get me going again.

JudyG 01-29-2012 07:40 AM

I think this year is going to be really interesting, with every month doing something different. I am so looking forward to the next block, but I sure hate wishing my life away just to get another block to work on.

I'm having the same "slump" problem since my mother passed away on New Years Day. I can't seem to be able to get started on anything...hope I get over this soon.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I will be praying that you will find peace and comfort.

grammy of 6 01-29-2012 01:10 PM

My sympathies to you on the passing of your mom.

Andii 01-29-2012 05:07 PM

I'm sorry, Surfergirl. Did your mom sew or quilt? Maybe you could make these blocks kind of as a memory quilt for or about her. Put small touches of things she liked or that remind you of her in each one.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Surfergirl. What a wonderful idea for a memory quilt. Maybe in your Mom's favorite colors?

Anael 01-30-2012 01:06 AM

Sorry to hear of your loss Surfergirl. I lost my mom almost 14 years ago and I still miss her very much. A memory quilt is a great idea, I finally started one to honor her. Not with fabric that was hers as there isn't any but I'm making a chicken quilt as she loved chickens and bright colors.

beaqltr 01-30-2012 01:24 AM

I am sorry about your mother.

Tweety2911 01-31-2012 12:50 PM

So sorry to hear about your mom's passing.

Surfergirl 01-31-2012 01:32 PM

Thank you all so much. My mother was a wonderful woman and I miss her so very much. A memory quilt is a good idea and I will give it some thought.

SulaBug 02-01-2012 11:53 PM

Just checking in to see if everyone is still getting their Snow Blossom block done, for January. Don't feel pressured to hurry if you are behind. Just be sure to post pictures & share with all of us here on the quilting board. Happy Sewing!!

Hello there,
There is no need to offically join this 2012 Calendar BOM project. You just need to find the January 2012 & February 2012 pattern's, listed under Block of the Month & Week. Make a copy of the pattern's, pick out your fabric color's you want to use & start sewing!! :D There are no time limits as to when you have to finish your block, just be sure to post a picture when you are finished, so everyone can see your nice work. These blocks are for you to keep so when the year has ended you will have enought block's to make your own quilt. Either for yourself or a gift to someone special to you. Good Luck & keep us informed on how things are going!!

Heya Sulabug and everyone.. Finally have all of my quilting stuff out of storage and Im set up in our new house. Between the moving and having a bad car accident. My quilting was put on hold :( When I was unpacking I came across all the house squares from last year and I made a mental note to log back in to the site here and see whats happening. Ive printed out both Jan and Febs patterns and am off to play in my fabric. Will post soon as I am done. Im so glad you are all still here. Hugs. Jen

littlesurfer 02-19-2012 10:48 AM

Jen...congratulations on the new house. Looking forward to seeing your Jan and Feb blocks. Glad you're back!

SulaBug 02-19-2012 01:06 PM

Hi Jen........I am so thrilled to see that you are back with all of us again. We missed you, but are glad you are back. Congrat's on your new house & I hope you are well recovered from your accident, too. Most of us are still working on our House blocks for 2011, at some point or another. Myself, I am making a few more of them, to make a bigger quilt. We can't wait to see your new blocks for the Calendar theme BOM for 2012. Do keep us posted as we always want to see the new blocks!! SHOW & TELL are US!!
