Why not? Did you have enough of your fabric to make the blocks for last week's clue? If so, just go ahead and do scrappy for what is being done tomorrow. I think when you see how the background is being used tomorrow, you will be able to make it work. Just make sure you have contrast with your background and your medium and dark, I can't advise because I don't remember what your colors were, if you had posted them. PM me tomorrow if you need more guidence after seeing the next clue.

whitepine, I guess they are like flying geese. I thought I missed something and was wanting to get them done since tomorrow is the next clue. I hear everybody call them houses. Lots of pretty fabrics ladies.

"Houses" works. And I just call them a part of something else!

Finally finished my HSTs (this has been a heavy grading week!). Looking forward to tomorrow.

Me too!. Grading, grading, grading and cannot seem to catch up fast enough to satisfy those anxious students. Not one stitch or cut or quilt daydream until last night when I cut out a quilt top from scraps to take to a craft day at church tomorrow. That will be my only sewing event until...after final grades are submitted. Until then, I will lurk and catch up later. :o

The last clue, which isn't really flying geese but made the same way, right?

I think I know what whitepine means. There is a way of making flying geese the way we are doing the 2.5 inch squares on the bigger square. At least I think that's what she meant.

Houses, big flying geese, or just parts of something else, :D all I know is I have trouble making them. Maybe I should do more pinning. And I didn't get that clue finished but am ready for the next anyway.

Whitepine, it may help if you draw a line on the diagonal from point to point where you're going to sew those little squares on the corners.

Who else is excited about today besides me?????? :D

SusieQ, I’m also waiting eagerly for today’s clues!

week 3 - more HSTs

There is a lot to do with week 3 clue, so I am going to give it all to you today, but will give you two weeks to finish it. I know these can be boring, and I just cannot sit there and make HSTs for hours on end! I know you don’t want to either. There will not be a new clue next week, the 27th. Final clue is two weeks from today.

Using your method of choice, make 108 HSTs using 1 dark fabric and 1 background; and make 36 HSTs from 1 medium fabric and 1 background. Press. These HST blocks will measure at 2-1/2”. If you are making scrappy, the more different fabrics, the more you will like your quilt. Reread the clue about making HSTs from last week’s clue if you need to refresh your memory on HSTs.

Set aside the 36 medium/background HSTs. Set aside 36 of the dark/background HSTs. You will use all of these in the final clue. If you want to get the rest of the cutting done, so you can put these scraps away, cut 36 light 2-1/2” squares, and 36 medium 2-1/2” squares. Put aside all these squares and HSTs talked about in this paragraph.

From that big pile of dark/background HSTs, pick 2 and place right sides together and sew a seam on the dark fabrics. After sewing together the 2-1/2” HSTs to make the orientation as shown, where the dark sides have the seam, press the seam. I pressed these seams open, you can press as you wish. The picture shows the seam pressed to the side. I went back and pressed them all open after I did the next clue. You will have 36 pairs of the dark/background measuring 2-1/2" by 4-1/2"

More to come with the big reveal in two weeks!! I’ll be back in a couple hours to see if there are any questions.

Thanks, Judy. I'm still working on step 1 but am half-way through.
One question about the parallelogram units. For those of us using yardage would it be OK to use the strip method for making these instead of two HSTs? If so, I'll work out the measurements and be back to post them.
