Huge question, Judy! You've made half-chevrons with your HSTs. Do all of those half-chevrons go the same way or should half of them be mirror images? In your third picture, the diagonal is running from upper left to lower right. In your fourth picture, the ones we can see have the diagonal running from upper right to lower left.

Thanks, Judy. I'm still working on step 1 but am half-way through.
One question about the parallelogram units. For those of us using yardage would it be OK to use the strip method for making these instead of two HSTs? If so, I'll work out the measurements and be back to post them.

yes, just make sure the measurements of 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 work out with the looking like my sample.

Not really sure what you are asking. (And I guess I don't know what a chevron block is) All HSTs will be mirror image depending on how you put them together. See in the picture? That is a mirror image. But if you turn the one on the right 90 degrees, you make the shape that duplicates my picture.

OK, here is a quick picture. You can see that the block on the left is a mirror image of the block on the right. If you put them together, you get a chevron. Do we want half of these units to be mirror images, or should they all be the same?

I think the "tube method" of making hsts will produce a number of pieces quickly. Does anyone know how wide to make the strips for the tubes that yield the 2 1/2" hsts?

paintmejudy 04-21-2018 09:50 AM

ok Ice, now I see what you mean. Actually, they will all be the same if you sew dark and dark together.

Belfrybat 04-21-2018 10:02 AM

Ice -- I'm not Judy, but think I can answer this. The one running upper L to lower R is the reverse side of the block. So the ones on the bottom would be correct -- R down to L.

Thank You Judy. I couldn't find this so I did the 2 ----5" sq.'s sewn around the edge then cut and x across diagonally. Makes 4 hst at a time. It's pretty quick too.

Ice all need to be the same as I showed in my picture, the bottom picture posted this morning. Theother showing just a single unit showed the reverse side as Belfry said, and was not a good choice, I guess for a sample. They need to be when looking at them laid out exactly like my bottom pix. I think I see where the confusion might be. Hopefully I haven't muddied the waters too much.

I was going to ask the same question as IceLeopard because I made the first one wrong. If you don't make them so the background material ends up in the upper left corner, then they will turn out to be mirror images and go in the opposite direction. I was doing a BH quilt with this pattern and it wasn't clear. A lot of people ended up with a lot of ripping to do. So I'm guessing that since Judy didn't say to make half go in each direction, all of them should be the same. The bottom one goes in the wrong direction.
