My DH & I visit Bennington, VT at least 3 times a year. Love that part on New England. When the Bennington Museum presented the DJ quilt for public viewing this was another trip worth taking. I was speachless just looking at it. The work was superior. Just knowing how old this quilt is was mindboggling. SewNo you were commenting about the age spots on the DJ quilt. Think if you or we were that age we would also have age spots. I'm looking at my hands now, oh my gosh I have age spots!! As for cleaning this irreplaceable quilt, I'm sure that the Museum had competent restorers go over this quilt with a fine tooth comb and their conclusion was to leave it alone. Does any blog member know if restorers use Oxy Clean on antique quilts? My interest has been peeked--what would they use?

If all goes well, I (along with two friends), will be going to Bennington in the fall to see THE quilt.
My blocks are coming along well, and I will post a picture soon. Thanks for all the hints, pictures, etc. |

I had just decided to buy another connector and then looked one last place!! YAY got it... So I will post the three blocks for the week. I have next weeks fabrics picked out and will make them tonight or Saturday - deciding whether to continue the drab 'post civ war' look or to use fabrics used during the Civil War - ahh my friend was so wrong! twasn't drab at all! Brenda actually said she would call me and explain the fabric history - I will share with you or ask that she pop in!
I'm leaning towards bright and putting the blocks I have in various places in my backing. This led me to another thought.... Nancy should pipe in here because I don't know if I need permission to start this??? I was thinking - since we will be spending over a year together, wouldn't it be special if we exchanged signature blocks to incorporate into our backs?? We would have quite a bit of time to do so. I would set a date to collect in about a year - they could be plain blocks, half square triangles - I would say at least 3" square - but can make 4 1/2" squares... with your name and city/state/country... Nancy??? Some thoughts to ponder Gus |
The lights are actually waaayyyy darker than they appear and for some reason the third pic didn't go through - too large?? I will post later when I get back - have an 11am appt - late!!

The signature blocks sound neat to me. I like the idea.

I like the signature block idea, too.

I like the idea of a signature block. Would it be just a plain piece of fabric, or should it be a pieced block with a space for the signature? I think it would be neat if everyone selected their favourite block for this.

I'm thinking people could just use a plain block or a very very easy block - it would take some time. There are actually 117 of us - maybe a few dropped. But this is just something to ponder over the next few weeks as to whether you want to make it an easy block or simply a piece of fabric on which your name would show.
I'm gonna try to post the last block now... Gus |
