I'm back on the trail...pulling up the rear...Of course, I took the easy way out and chose to do Boy's Playmate first...Broken heart is still in the covered wagon waiting to make it's debut....

dublb 02-07-2012 07:53 PM

I love that sunset!! Wow! Stunning!

Your block looks firey hot, Honchey! That touch of blue is going to be a great jumping off color for another block.
Lucky you did the easy one first. Glad the Grands weren't around tonight as Gram was cussing a blue steak by the time she got done and the paper's still in! Here's Broken Heart and then another little set of hearts. Heart blocks measure 1/2" finished and look QE "NO PAPER" touched these hearts.

Honchey .... those horses in the sunset (or is it a sunrise) make quite the statement! ITA with OKSGlad that all the colours are going to be great for jumping off to lots of other colours!! OKSGlad ... you got the tough and slow one done! You should use those mini ♥'s for the centre of Boy's Playmate! Great job done on your Broken ♥Here's mine ........

oksewglad 02-07-2012 09:18 PM

Hey those "boots are made for walking"! Really spices up the block. Saddle complements the boots as well.
I wonder how many will use a FC in the center of Broken Heart. Yours is spot on.
Thanks for the mini center idea. I'm also making a bunch of 3 inch houses so could use that idea too. Gnight. G

QuiltE 02-07-2012 09:20 PM

You could do mini's in all of them ... it'd be more like YOUR quilt then!

Honchey 02-07-2012 09:32 PM

You know, we were all talking about how large the patterns are ...trying to fussy cut them to fit...It really is hard...these horses were in a very large panorama of desert and hills and in a 1/3 of a yard of fabric I could only get 4 of a kind for the rectangles. So I had to make do with two sets as close alike as I could.
Oksewglad, What are you going to do with the little heart blocks??? The block is so cute.
Both you and QuiltE"s blocks are so precise , neat, and just opposites of each other...Did you guys plan it that way???

QuiltE 02-07-2012 09:44 PM

Oh too funny ... I hadn't even registered on how our blocks were mirrored! :)

That's what I hate about fussy cutting ... feel like I'm wasting a lot of fabric.
The FCs in my Boy's Playmate are all from my anchor fabric ... and huge gaps between to get the full piece in each case.

Honchey ... your horses just look as though they are running around the circle there and because of that I don't think you didn't even need to have 2+2 (or all 4) matching. It gives a really nice effect!

Beautiful blocks again this week, no horsies for me, I am just playing in my garden of flowers looking at the stars;)
There were a few curse words coming from my sewing room too as I put together Broken Heart, did anybody count there was 57 pieces in that block

Anael 02-08-2012 02:02 AM

You found stars and flowers, beautiful blocks! Yes I did count too ;)

What awesome blocks, ladies. I can't believe how different they all are. You guys amaze me. I have to thank Anael & QE for "talking me off the ledge" doing Broken Heart--I could not get the templates to fit. They convinced me to paper piece, glad I did.

Here are mine for the week. What have been posted already are terrific! I didn't take notes so I can't make individual comments right now but you know who you are. Great job.

Honchey 02-08-2012 06:45 AM

Woweeee!!! I'm so glad to see the red & white Broken Hearts... They are down right beautiful...
My eyes must be going because I couldn't "see" the broken heart until now. The red really defines it better than the one shown in the book.

JanRN,, I love your "horses" finally we get to see them!

Mirabelle, Your "flowers" are great!

Anael, Your broken heart block fabric is so soft looking,,love the swirled effect, love the shade of the tree branch fabric.

Gardnergal, Those sleeping puppies are so cute!

I love your garden & stars! Wow, I didn't realize how many pieces, that is daunting. I'm glad that I'm gonna PP instead of Freezer Paper.

Your hearts have such movement! Lovely! You picked a perfect playmate for your Boy's Playmate. So cute!

dublb 02-08-2012 08:27 AM

Janie - Such fussy cutting! Is that a sheep in your center block or a dog? I like it!! OOps I got blocks mixed up. Your center horse & rider stand out!!

dublb 02-08-2012 08:32 AM

Windiq- Your blue blocks pointing to that cute horseshoe are great! Your bandana fabric makes your Playmate stand out! Lovely!!

JeanieG 02-08-2012 11:53 AM

Wow you guys got an early start! Great work everyone! Mine are in progress, should be finished today, I hope.

OK try number twi Finally, it worked!! Boy's playmate is deciated to GIL who was a cowboy riding from Montana to Texas horseback to sell "ponies" among other things like winning a silver mounted saddle for bronc riding at Cheyenne, Wymoing. Spotted horses belonged to brother, opposite side is an Irish thorughbred raised in Ireland, raced in England, and was owned by SIL. Broken hearts has a bleeding heart center...one of many that has bloomed here on the home front.

QuiltingNinaSue 02-08-2012 12:29 PM

OK, quilt police, the points do not match up on the first; may re-make later. Whatever. Background takes over; not a good background piece. Looks like a batch of angry snakes to me. Do not appreciate the designer in this one.

JeanieG 02-08-2012 01:19 PM

Love the sentiment in your quilt QNS! So interesting to read about the "old" days!

Anael 02-08-2012 01:22 PM

All blocks are beautiful!

jan RN, I'm glad it worked :D Your blocks are great!

QuiltingNinaSue, I love the pictures in your Boy's playmate! What a lovely idea to dedicate the block to family. I love the idea of the broken hearts.

dublb 02-08-2012 01:28 PM

QNS I'm so sorry that you are not happy with Broken Hearts. I'm having trouble choosing fabric for it. I think that I've got it now. I think that I"ll do Boy's playmate first then Broken Hearts tomorrow.

QuiltE 02-08-2012 03:31 PM

Catching up here, after not being around all day ....... you've all been busy!

Anael
... Yours are looking softly romantic!!
I think that pink mended the Broken ♥ !!

MiraB ... How nice!! You've really made those stars and flowergardens work perfectly together. Yes! I counted those 57 pieces and went *gasp* ... I kept track of all the FWS pieces and am doing the same for PC.

JanRN ... you nailed it with that PPing!!! And great with the red contrasting with your infamous mules! Do we have you sold on PPing now? Looks like GGal is coming close on the dalmatians for us!

GGal ... Another red winner ... you're in the Valentine's Day spirit, with many of the rest!. Cute, fun and playful puppies!

JanieW ... look at all those perfect FC triangles and strips. OMG ... you are incredible, woman! Great match up for the cowboy and fabrics

WendiQ ... Now that's just so cute, the FC horseshoe surrounded by the softness of the blues. Almost like a surprise! Then the fun horse and bandanas. Great mix and will all come together as the blue/grey rope with the horse gets a chance to blend with the blues.

DublB ... Thanks! I really like my anchor fabric and just wish I could use more of it. The print is spaced too far to use all as one ... and then the print parts are too big for most of the FC possibilities. hhmmmmm? Maybe I should start rationing it, and use it in borders? Playmate should give you a nice big piece to FC something from your flag fabric. Waiting to see it! :)

QNSue ... More surprises in the pics! You'll have to give us all lessons on the how to's!! So unique for all your blocks. Remember, there's no Quilt Sheriff around these parts! Angry snakes ... oh my! Is it supposed to be rope? or?

grannyrae 02-08-2012 04:40 PM

Beautiful blocks as always ladies.Loviing all the chatter and reasoning behind fabric choices etc.Love your stories QNS

QuiltingNinaSue 02-08-2012 05:45 PM

That lasso piece will not be in the quilt at all; the lighter piece of the same design might be there. Love my wirless HP Pro 8600 printer but find my Dell has a long learning curve and cannot get the fonts set up the right size yet. I print on Joanns print paper for laser jets now, but will see what I prefer later.

carriem 02-08-2012 06:31 PM

WOW! You have been busy posting today! I worked at the quilt shop all day so didn't get to check in until now! I just work one day/week...it is lots of fun helping ladies pick fabrics. Plus it helps pay for my fabric purchases. :)

Everyone's blocks are great! I didn't "see" the broken heart until looking at the contrasting blocks...especially the red and white ones. I now have to rethink my fabric choices so I can try to get the same effect.

Carrie

Your blocks are just great QNinaSue. I rechecked the first and no your points don't match, but your photo placement makes it look like that's the way it's supposed to be. Really like the red fabric placement. Oh and a broken heart is a bleeding heart-so clever!

oksewglad 02-08-2012 07:12 PM

Like you Carrie, I missed the broken heart. Honchey, I'm framing the little hearts and giving them as a Valentine.
Anael--love the browns; pink hearts complement the browns in block 1
mirabelle--starry, starry nights, right? Such lovely colors.
Jan, hearts are so pretty and where'd you find the donkey fabric.
GGal--your hearts are truly broken with the color changes you made
JanieW--fussy cuts on Broken Heart are fantastic; great contrast with the horse rider and the brown that surrounds the center.
Wendiq--another cute FC from your horse fabric; how many more can you use in your blocks? love the blues
And here's my Boy's Playmate, I took a cue from QE and put a heart in the middle. Whew another one I didn't have to PP. Won't let me post, will do so later.

Here's my Boy's Playmate.

Here's where I've started Broken Hearts.

I've got another picture. I was wondering if Attic Windows would work with these blocks so I took a pict to get a better idea of how it would look. What do ya'll think? I was also wondering about weather it would work with the fabric's time period?

The red, cream, & blue are folded & not quite the finished size. The blue would be a small sashing between all of the blocks.

PS As I look at it here I think that I would need a tiny (maybe 1/16" wide) black bias strip appliqued between the blocks & the red & cream. That might give the windows even more dimension & separate the colors.

I think that I'll head ta bed & see what ya'll think in the AM. Nite all.
