I haven't started my blocks yet. I don't like to paperpiece because of all the waste. I will try the template method to cut out my pieces. The other reason I don't like it is when you sew the pieced sections together it is hard to get your points to match, so I will try the clip. Maybe I will learn to like paperpiecing after all. Thanks for all of the tips. The blocks are all very nice.

Rosyhf 08-11-2015 05:31 AM

Sweet, I would wait 24 hours to let the ink cure and then just to be sure I would place a piece of scrap fabric on top and iron it just with a up and down movement.

Honchey 08-11-2015 06:00 AM

Toomanyufo, I also hate waste and use the templates occasionally...When a block has just squares, triangles & rectangles I measure the blocks, add the seam allowance then continue the ppaing...When sewing the sections together pin the points or corners of the pieces together..they need to match. then use the clips to hold the section together...

there is rotary cutting on the CD for those not pping...you could do it that way also..

When I went to office depot to try to get my book spiraled (they would not cut off the book for some reason), they said they could print from the cd on their laser printer. I chose not to have them do it. In retrospect, it may be a good thing to have a complete copy of the cd spiral bound for reference.
Can anyone here help out with a better answer to the laser printer pp problem?

Oh man. After I slept on it, I realized it's probably the heat from the iron that is causing the ink to transfer to the fabric, so your this made it click... I know it somehow uses heat to apply the toner to the paper, so that could be why it comes off as its ironed. I'm going to try a different printing option and move on to the next two blocks. I'll get pix posted of the inked up blocks tomorrow, but tonight, I kinda want to start the next one. :)

Husky, I love your gray and blue fabrics. Are you planning to keep with that theme?

Now that you mention it, Aimee does look kind of like a beach ball. :)

Rosyhf 08-13-2015 07:41 AM

Gayle those are lovely. I don't have time to do my blocks this week....heading out to Puerto Rico in a few hours until the 18th. I will get caught up then.

pjaco 08-17-2015 06:22 AM

Here I am, peeking at all the pretty blocks. I will try to make these too... although I am notorious for procrastination. I haven't paperpieced in a long time, but I feel like my best way to handle these is by pp. So I've made 2 blocks and have discovered that by the time I finish one block, I must make another. The double is easier and I can change up the fabrics if I don't care for them. That's how I'm approaching them. Once again, I'm truly loving all of your pics !!

JeanieG 08-17-2015 09:31 AM

Glad you are joining us pjaco! We want to see you blocks, please post!

pjaco 08-17-2015 01:15 PM

Thanks !! Having trouble posting pics, it's been too long since I've done it. Bear with me.

I loved reading the letters in the book! I read them all in two days-- I couldn't put the book down. Some were so sentimental that they brought tears to my eyes. They were so encouraging. Those women were poor but overcame it, saw beauty in the outdoors, loved family, worked hard; I thought so well of them, and was proud of their industry and attitudes.

Here's my Aimee block.

Pam P 08-18-2015 08:29 AM

Wow! Love that!

JeanieG 08-18-2015 11:00 AM

Givio - awesome fussy cutting on your block! The color combos are marvelous. Love it!

Oops, sorry, I just noticed your question. I'm probably going to end up doing about half with this theme. I love that grey fabric. I think it's adorable! I do a lot of grey and aqua/blue though, so I'm trying to stretch myself on this project and expand my color choices. Although, week 3, I'm going back to that grey as my theme. :)

huskyquilter 08-18-2015 11:30 AM

Givio, I love that block too!

katybob 08-18-2015 02:39 PM

Givio, that fabric is just awesome and so is the piecing!

givio 08-19-2015 05:10 AM

Thanks for the encouragement, girls! With week #3 in progress, I'm feeling behind the game here. :-p

Honchey 08-19-2015 06:57 AM

Givio & pjaco, Beautiful colorful blocks, you'll be catching up before you know it..keep up the good work..

QuiltingNinaSue 08-19-2015 04:34 PM

Piaco, welcome to this new adventure; great start with your three blocks.

Givio, great first block; you are going to 'wow' us with everyone of your blocks! Looking forward to seeing more of them.

Rosyhf 08-23-2015 06:38 AM

I came back sick from my trip and I can see that there is no rush lol....I don't need to get caught up yet. I felt like doing something yesterday so I made this "A" block out of the Shirley Libby software. I have been reading the board for a week as I couldn't do anything else and found the ABC quilt someone posted and it just called to my little pile of Aunt Gracie. I will do this alphabet while I work on the Farmers in between.

I thought Addie would be simple, and I'd just use the templates. First I quickly sewed the 8 HST, ironed them, then realized I'd made squares instead of triangles! I didn't want to cut tiny triangles again, so seam ripped the squares. The good thing about 6" blocks is seam ripping a seam is quick as they are about 1" long. :-p Then I sewed the block, and it was too big. Oh! Duh, I cut the pieces leaving the dashed line on the templates, they have a 1/4" seam allowance, and I always sew using a scant 1/4" seam. Seam ripped the whole thing, trimmed pieces without measuring anything, sewed it again, and then saw that none of the pink triangle's points meet well. :-(

The seal of approval is always my husband. He said, "Oh! That's cute!" But he is trying to repair the washing machine pump, so I'm not sure if he really looked at it. Maybe I'll make Addie again another day, but today it's 'good enough!' :-)

katybob 08-23-2015 01:06 PM

Sometimes it's just one of those days. Your critters are so cute -- bees and butterflies!

JeanieG 08-23-2015 01:07 PM

Looks good to me givio! I like the fussy cut butterfly!

janRN 08-23-2015 01:41 PM

I think it looks fine. Love the fabrics.

TOOMANYUFO'S 08-23-2015 04:54 PM

I paper pieced Addie and mine came out to only 6 1/4", instead of 6 1/2". Anyone else get a smaller size?

janRN 08-23-2015 05:05 PM

All my blocks are 6 1/4", don't know why but as long as they're consistent I'm okay with it.

JeanieG 08-23-2015 06:58 PM

I wondered about that too, all mine are 6 1/4" too!

carriem 08-23-2015 07:10 PM

I had to increase the size 100% on my blocks before printing...did you do that? The default was only 98.6% for some reason...
