Hi Everyone, Carolina certainly has made a name for herself this past week..It's been all over the news !
Seriously, please post your blocks so they can cheer me up, I'm still rather ill and as hard as I tried to get at least one block done..it was a no go last night... |

Thank you for posting this week's blocks, Anne. See if I post while I huff and puff after moving boxes, too many, has my heart pounding. oops wrong side:Right side! LOL!
Great room is cleaner than its been since Open House back in 2005 October. Dh has burned three big 44 gallon trash can of junk and stuff. Now to use the vacuum bags that seal and clear the guest room and clean up on Quilt Room. Made a list for grocery shopping and checking it twice so it will one trip to town. Have only a week and a half ahead of the weeks here, so need to have time afterwards to puch ahead some more blocks. |

Feel better soon, Anne. Maybe looking at some pretty blocks will help. I love Tuesdays, can't wait to see what everyone did with this week's blocks. QNS--very, very nice; love the colors in Carolina.
|
I agree, Jan...really like the colors of Carolina, QNS.. And your blocks are so crisp and neat..love what you are doing with your batiks..
|
Both are very cute! I now have templates and fabric cut for last week's and this week's blocks. Ready to rush home and chain piece. If the sewing machine Goddess is with me tonight, I'll get all 4 done. Knock on wood!
|
QNS, your Carolina block reminds me of a kaleidoscope the way the green pops out, very pretty! JanRN, love the batiks, very pretty! I will post mine later today after work. Some of us can't work underneath our desks... Jenny... hahahaha.

Nina & Jan, really pretty blocks, I have working with Picasa for an hour trying to get pictures up, and they all seem to vanish. So will try again. Here are my Carolina (don't know how many times I have used the seam ripper on these two blocks) and Caroline. Get well Honchey it really sucks to be sick.
Also here are all 20 of mine so far. Thanks for looking. |
I had all 3 pictures cropped and don't know what happened. Sorry about that.

Here are my blocks for this week:
GrannyQ - After you crop, click on Export. Move the Image Size to 640 pixels. Click Export again and notice where it is going to be saved. (I've had trouble with this also.) Mine saves the export at Picasa>Export>Desktop. I hit the diminish (-) at top of page to keep it open, that will make it easier to find. Once you start using the file, Picasa will automatically go there to retrieve your photo. Hope this makes sense! |

Everyone's blocks are just wonderful this week. Those green blocks are going to make an awesome quilt. Here are mine. Carolina was a bear to put together, but I think Caroline is my favorite so far. The colors of Caroline are not really my beloved LSU's purple and gold -- they're much softer than that "in real life".

Beautiful blocks, ladies. GrannyQ, love how all of those greens look...like spring and a renewal of life. Thanks for the nice words about my blocks. Lots of eye candy here...best thing about Tuesdays!

Here are mine. Carolina gave me fits. The points don't meet very well. I have her marked as a do over in the notebook. (but not anytime soon!)

Pretty fabrics Pam!

OK let's try this again, having trouble posting pictures today, here are mine, Carolina and Caroline, did have tlittle trouble with both, one lining up points and the other fitting in, in fact I see 2 little buckles in both sides at same point, but I think like katybob Carolina is my favorite. As you can see the sun is shinning today, praying for my family and QuiltingNinaSue and all on the east coast.

Here is my Caroline...
I have one more block done...one of my retreats is next weekend so I am sure I will get a few more done. Hopefully the blocks I plan to make through October. |
Ooo. More pretties. Made progress catching up last night, but didn't finish any of them. Chain pieced a bunch and hoping to finish tonight. I decided to make fried chicken last night because I was craving it, so that took some time out of my sewing time. Then the wolf (my husky dog) decided it was time to get me off the couch and out to the park.
|
Beautiful blocks ladies. I have had a busy week so no blocks yet. Anne, for the cough....apple cider vinegar with honey, take a little sip, make sure to not suck it up as the cough will start. You might need to take a 2 to 3 sips. Somehow the venigar cuts the cough and lay down sort of at an incline not laying down flat. I swear by the honey and vinegar for the cough, it's old time medicine. Please rest.

Oksewglad - what is a TATW quilt?
Drumroll please... I finished Carolina! My first completed and somewhat successful y-seam attempt. I'm feeling a little smug over this small victory. So is my janome sew mini... The gingham looks wonky, but it's not, I just haven't pressed this one yet. |
Husky I love that block, you did a bang up job...
|
Yes, a bang up job indeed...
TATW.....Trip Around the World |
Husky, I love the fabric combination..and I like the way you switched it around...
|
Aw! Thanks everyone! Trying to tackle Carrie now...
|
Love all these blocks. I'm trying to figure out what this thread is about. Jenny love your color combos.
|
Marilyn - we are all working on a quilt-a-long from the Farmer's Wife 30's Quilt Book by Laurie Hird. Below is the link where it all started. If you have the book, or want to get it and start right where we are, you are surely welcome. We do two blocks (6") a week and there is a new thread each week to post our blocks for the week. What you are seeing here are Blocks #19 and #20.

Thanks for the compliments ladies! I'm so glad I decided to do this sew along. I've learned so much from you all, and I can see my skills getting better each week. Also, it doesn't take me an entire weekend to do half a block anymore. Ha!
|
Huskyquilter, That was quite a challenge you set for yourself to use gingham for the background pieces!! Wonderful success with it, good job!
It's still taking me a long time to do each block. I've got Bride partially cut out and hope to get it done quickly, as I've still got this week's blocks to do. I have a good idea what fabrics I'm going to use for this week though. That's my update. lol Marilyn, I hope you join us! |
Well, givio, you take fussy cutting to an entirely new level! It would take me forever to do that! I actually managed to get a little bit ahead this weekend. finished the ones for this week and next. I might end up redoing bride this week...

Hi Everyone, feeling better but still very tired....I have been working on Caroline and every piece of fabric sewed great until it was time to put the sections together..I wish that the person who did the pping order knew what they were doing when figuring it out...Very few of the seams nest correctly..especially for the 8 pieces that come together for the 1/2 hst's.. I was so careful in sewing these seams just to the stitch line then discovered that the way they lay after joining them there's one enormous lump and no fan out for the seam end... so...I took that whole junction apart and will stitch it back together by hand.. I had to walk away from it a few times..and after scanning it I noticed that the block placement is different than the photo in the book..I may have to redo it if those centers don't come out right...
I haven't even started next week's blocks yet..oh well, I'll start tomorrow.. :) |
Honchey, I agree. IF seams actually nest I get excited. For the most part they don't and its really frustrating. Also, for upcoming block, Cat, I followed the pping templates perfectly and, of course the block was "backwards" so that is annoying. Oh well, it is what it is.

Ok finished Caroline and working on Carolina. Let me show you what I do when I have a block with lots of pieces like this one. I open it in Eq and color it in. I just use any colors in light, Medium and dark just to get a basic design and this is what I am going to do. Working in it now. I made all the corners pp and the middle I will use templates, will post the two when I get done.

Here are my blocks for this week. I took some liberty with the Caroline block-- I used the pattern, but rearranged how the prints were laid out. I see several of us chose to make traditional pinwheels instead of the way the triangle colors were arranged in the book.
