Good job, Bonnie...too bad I don't like orange...but the color balance is so nice.

sewbizgirl 01-12-2018 07:02 AM

I love orange... such a vibrant happy color!

QuiltingNinaSue 01-12-2018 08:12 AM

SBG, I think it looks warm and welcoming. Love the border you designed. If only I could make one that would turn out as well...but you know a well is a deep subject. And I am a temperamental artist at sewing, I sew what I want I want to sew that appeals to me at the moment. Of course, I get carried away on a fabric sale....I may or may not get around to sewing all of it into a quilt. That is being honest with myself.

My loot The pink fabric is for a friend in Southern Missouri who also totaled her car recently. She needs a bright spot in her near future. She loves pink and rose colors. The Baltimore 'copy' is the only way I can have one, LOL! And of course, one piece tent front in two identical panels for DGS. The aqua and orange and brown go in a storage tote for the Bonnie Hunter Ringo Lake...someday. I had fun with Quilter 65 in the Sampler in Chariton, Iowa, with her 60% off. I felt like the IKEA add, "Start the car, start the car, start the car....let's GO" What a legal steal for this stash addition! Wow! I even have the pink backing!

JuneBillie 01-12-2018 10:50 AM

Bonnie your quilt is so pretty, and I like the orange and blue,

OK, I hope your feeling better.

Jeanie, it sounds like you are making progress on your quilt.

Givio, the baby quilt sound like a fun project.

Bev, it is so nice to hear of all the improvement.

QNS, wow you sure did get some great fabrics. I love all those pinks too. My mother's favorite color was pink, and I love it too. I always have a hard time when ask my favorite color though, because I really love lots of colors.

We have some more winter weather coming our way today, but at the moment it is 60 degrees.
Hopefully I can get some sewing in. I also have to do some laundry, and just finished going over the new year bills.

Have a good day everyone.

sewbizgirl 01-12-2018 12:32 PM

QNS, I love your stash enhancement photos... thanks for sharing! Looks like you found some gorgeous tonals to create with.

Susan, I think your cold weather has already come through here. It was relatively warm here yesterday, (60's) and then cold last night and today. We had some snow flurries this morning. I haven't driven in snow in decades! I think we are one day ahead of you, down here. The cold is supposed to stay with us for about a week.

Hope everybody is keeping warm.

JeanieG 01-12-2018 12:42 PM

Love those pinks QNS! That is going to be one gorgeous quilt. What pattern are you think of doing with that quilt? That is one of the hardest decisions, I think!

QuiltingNinaSue 01-12-2018 02:16 PM

JeanieG, I am leaning toward Warm Feelings so I can whip it up quick...its just for a single long bed.

Thank you everyone for the kind words about my stash additions.

oksewglad 01-12-2018 03:41 PM

Well no doubt about it you can really see pretty colors, QNS! I think the Baltimore cheater is a very nice one from the looks of it...good buys!

dublb 01-12-2018 06:22 PM

OH Sue, your FART looks like it was soooo rewarding! I love your haul!

QuiltingNinaSue 01-12-2018 07:11 PM

Thanks Ok and Dublb. I think that will hold me until next June! Maybe. We will see. Now IF I can find the time to get into the sewing room...dh has some requests of my help in there too. Since I live with him, gotta do what I can to keep him happy. LOL!

dublb 01-15-2018 06:23 AM

I had a great day yesterday. It started w/him giving me a bracelet that matches the necklace that he gave me for Christmas. About mid morning we drove to Brownwood & tried a Mexican Food restaurant that I have been wanting to try for a while. Well that was a bust. At least DH & I were together. :) We won't know what are good restaurants till we try 'em & we don't go out that much. I then took him to Harbor Freight & told him to get whatever he wants. He picked out a table top grinder. It has a lamp w/it. I also tried to get him to spend more $ but he wouldn't. I kept telling him it was coming outta my allowance but he said that he had all he wanted. I took a nap when we got home & then we went into town to get a movie. We got 2 movies & watched one of 'em last night. DH grilled steaks before we watched the movie.

QuiltingNinaSue 01-15-2018 06:26 AM

Sounds like a great day with Mr. Dublb, Dublb.

JuneBillie 01-15-2018 08:08 AM

Bev you and your hubby sound like a couple of love birds. Sounds like you both had a wonderful day. :)

I have been doing a bit of sewing. It was frigid cold here the past few nights, but a little warmer today and we have snow on its way.

sewbizgirl 01-15-2018 03:31 PM

Sweet day with your hubby, Bev. Was it your anniversary?

dublb 01-15-2018 06:35 PM

Yes it was our 35th anniversary. We've known each other for 39 years. We were babies when we met. Alright, not really babies but I was 17 & he was 15 almost 16. When we married he had just turned 20 & I was 21. Even after 35 years there is no one I'd rather spend my retirement with.

Blue Bell 01-15-2018 07:01 PM

Dubib, Congratulations on your 35th anniversary.

oksewglad 01-15-2018 08:21 PM

What a great milestone, dublb! Congratulations! MrOk and I met when we were 16...sure scared the bejesus out of me when I realized our oldest GS in now 16!

JeanieG 01-15-2018 09:07 PM

Glad you had a great anniversary day Bev!

sewbizgirl 01-15-2018 09:24 PM

Happy Anniversary, Bev! Sounds like it was a match made in Heaven.

JuneBillie 01-16-2018 12:39 PM

It's been snowing here all day. It is so pretty, but tonight is suppose to with wind chill be like 10below.
I did get several more blocks cut out today.

JeanieG 01-16-2018 01:43 PM

Oh dear Susan, that cold sounds just awful! At least you have a great hobby to keep you happy!

dublb 01-16-2018 03:39 PM

It's cold here today also. I too am sewing. I did a bit of machine applique. :) I agree it is great to have a good hobby when it is to cold to do anything. :)

sewbizgirl 01-16-2018 05:37 PM

I've been wearing double pants and double shirts in the house today, and still I can't get warm! We got about an inch of snow today. So pretty but so cold!

JuneBillie 01-16-2018 05:42 PM

Jeanie it sure does help having a great hobby. I have been cutting all the pretty blocks that I find to see if I will need to get some more. I still sew some together, but maybe not the complete row until I see. I am making a queen size, but hubby likes it to hang over the sides a lot, so I will also probably have a wide sashing. I have made things mostly for others so this is for us, but more importantly for my hubby to have.

Bev, I hope you stay warm too.

oksewglad 01-16-2018 07:50 PM

Oh you ladies from the south make me laugh...winter here I wear leggings and jeans as well as a long sleeved shirt and sweatshirt daily! Let's all hope for a warm up!

dublb 01-16-2018 11:29 PM

Your right OK, I am so spoiled. I am a desert girl! I am also used to a house w/central heat. This wood burning stove is great for most of our winter days but this is the second really cold spell this winter. I am ready for spring. Notice I didn't say Summer. I am not fond of those triple digits either. I must say though I seem to handle those better'n these frigid temps.

sewbizgirl 01-17-2018 07:19 AM

I like a mild winter... 55 degrees is just about perfect.

We are watching the deer on the snow this morning. One big buck and two does.

oksewglad 01-17-2018 07:38 AM

The deer are such a pretty sight. But we have way too many of them around here. They gather in herds overwinter; sometimes as small as ten, others as large as 40-50. Throughout the growing year, they destroy corn and grains...farmers feed them so hunters can hunt them. No compensation for us. Seasoned hunters will tell you the venison tastes more like beef than in did in years past. One is ever watchful around daylight and dusk as they forage at those time of day...they will jump out of the ditch at any time. You get used to paying special attention to the places they frequent. When there's snow on the ground you can see where they habitually travel.

Okay off my soap box..today must get EOY stuff off to the accountant. But I want to sew.....

QuiltingNinaSue 01-17-2018 10:02 AM

Since most of us are like the rest of us, Maybe God could move Hawaii weather here so we can enjoy without going there! So ready for Spring. Spring and fall temperatures I like best. About 72 degrees, thank you. But cannot go to Hawaii where that is the temperature average...the midwest has me spoiled 'cause we can drive miles and never see the ocean. It is fun to visit....but not to live there for me.

Deer are not my favorite animal any more....we need more deer hunters. More Iowans need to lease deer hunting out to the city folks who want to harvest them. Maybe, OK, that would be ideal for certain sections of your farm...with a guide along to make sure they don't shoot a cow for a deer! (Hundred dollars a day for the guide and three hundred for stepping on to your land! They buy out of state license for $350, buy expensive three to five thousand dollars for a fancy gun, so they will pay that!) We drive verrrrry slow through Blue Bird Valley where the deer hit our GMC car and totaled it. It has been a huge struggle to right that and get all the medical stuff together and working out the budget to get through all the financial figures of it all. Beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, just maybe.

Cleaning on QR again. Wonder who makes it such a mess....when I like things tidy??? Must be my invisible twin self digging out that stuff. Some day it might just be neat. Always have too many scraps lying around mixed in with paper work and those patterns I pulled to use or cleaning out another corner I want to reorganize a different way. Now I will set my hands to work and quit complaining and try to smile the rest of this day. :)

oksewglad 01-17-2018 10:35 AM

Taking a noon break...QNS, that evil twin sister of yours must be at work yet again. Just so you know, I have one, too.

Our GS hunted with his uncle on our land this fall. Second season had another group of locals hunt as well. We also have a couple of young hunters who bow hunt in early fall...they each got one. So we do get hunters...just not the $$$ paying kind. Although they do share of the bounty every year along with a local gift card.

I have declared 2018 the year of the triangle...I'm sorting the numerous HST's I've been gifted with. Many are from corner cutoffs or binding joins. I have a couple of plans for use of them...just no time to take pics and post as I don't have reliable cell service for a quick phone pic. Back to bookwork....

JeanieG 01-17-2018 11:01 AM

I finished all the pieces and am finally doing the block assembly on the On Ringo Lake quilt. The blocks are much easier to assemble than some of the other 7 Bonnie Hunter Mysteries I have done. I am not in a hurry, so that makes it nice.

We have had great weather the last week, in the high 70's, but temperatures are dropping and they say we may have some light rain on Friday/Saturday.

I started feeling like I was getting a cold last night, so decided not to go to a luncheon that was scheduled for today. I still feel a little under the weather. Hopefully it won't progress to something worse!

JuneBillie 01-17-2018 03:14 PM

Jeanie, I hope your feeling under the weather will improve.

QuiltingNinaSue 01-18-2018 11:20 AM

Just learned today that our Dr doesn't accept our insurance plan any more. Bummer. So now we are 'Dr' shopping!

JeanieG 01-18-2018 03:10 PM

Oh no, QNS - that really is a bummer! I would hate to have to change Drs.

JuneBillie 01-18-2018 04:16 PM

We had to find my hubby and insurance to have for this year. We will see how it works out.
I lost an extra coverage I had to help with the extra costs. This all due to the new things this year.

QuiltingNinaSue 01-18-2018 06:38 PM

Everything happens for a reason. The CFM only accepts PFFS now and we cannot afford that. So we will change to my hometown Mercy Medical Center where they accept all insurance cards. We will stay in our TSTA group, with acceptable insurance rates to our budget. Whew! What a relief. Tomorrow we go and have our records transferred. And we will smile and say, "Thank you!"

sewbizgirl 01-18-2018 09:19 PM

I hope we see some postitive free market changes in the health care industry now that OCare is on the way out. I think they just made it legal for insurance to be purchased across state lines, didn't they? That should produce some healthy competition that drives prices down.

dublb 01-18-2018 10:04 PM

DH & I have no medical insurance. It cost much less to go to the Dr than it cost for insurance.

QuiltingNinaSue 01-19-2018 06:34 AM

I hope you stay healthy, Dublb. Hospitals charge big bucks. Interesting conversation with former clinic, who stated they could charge us 50% less than what they billed Medicare for in services. Dh overnight and day in NE was over eleven thousand dollars...not the fee we paid but it hit our retirement funds hard. Plus his operation in Pella which was a few thousand less. Group insurance remains the best benefits and easiest on the budget. Satisfied with our group, that is why we chose to change doctors and not the insurance plan.

And don't get me started on charges the pharmacists charge the public. Highway robbery as DGM said.
