Altho I appreciated the extra hour of sleep, it's as dark as night already and it's only 5:40pm!!!! Hate that.

We had Trick or Treat night Thursday and there were so many clever costumes; I don't have little grandkids so I wasn't familiar with some of the characters. My favorite was my neighbor's weiner dog--she made a bun for him so he looked like a hot dog! Too cute.

Hope everyone is well. We're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of renovating bathroom. Can't wait til I can pee at 4:30am without having to troop downstairs and back up. Little things make me happy LOL. And then I can get back to sewing--wow, I miss that. On the plus side, I have NO-none-not a one--UFO!

Lucky You, Jan... I wish I was that dedicated to finishing my projects..
I was listening to my favorite radio station and they were discussing unusual costumes..A caller said his little 5 year old brother wanted to be "Jake from State Farm"...Had a good laugh with that one..

I have most of my "stuff" ready to go in the car.. I'm not anticipating the long drive even with stopping in Virginia..I wouldn't mind flyng but there's only one airport close enough that Spirit flies out of with one catch..you have to be there at 4:30 in the a.m. for the 6 o'clock take off.. did that once never again...too early for me..

I came across a drawing I made of a Label I wanted to make and never got around to doing it..I'll scan & post it after I get to NC.

Well Ladies, maybe I'll stop by tomorrow Maybe not..depends if I'm traveling.:)..Have a good day all..H

JanRN remember the darkness will get lighter again after Dec 21...that's the shortest day of the year. Nice that you are almost finished with your remodel jobs. I hope we get a preview when its done. NO UFOs? I can loan out a few from here....

Honchey have a good safe trip to NC.

We went to Brady on Sat. We were worried about rain but it didn't rain on us at all on Sat. I saw where it had rained the night before but didn't see any rain. I am glad that we went on Sat & not the night before.
DH & #1DSon left Midland about 8:00am yesterday. #2DSon & I headed out at about 9:00 only to come back when he started vomiting. He has a spastic stomach valve & this does happen at times. We tried to start out again at 9:30 but more vomiting. Sigh. I just took him home & left him. So I didn't get on the road till 10:00. #1DSon & Dh had already moved most of the stuff around & had a load ready to go to storage. They got the cedar chest & DH's bureau (that were in my Sequoia) up the stairs before heading to the storage unit. Then we decided to put together an entertainment center that DH & I ordered about a year & a half ago. (Yes, we have had it that long.) It has an electric fireplace/heater in it & I was so excited to get it put together.
Well while they were working on it my DSis called. Both of my DSis's had driven to Brady so that my DSis that is closest to my age is lookin' to buy a house in Brady. Well she has found one & wanted me to see, so I drove into town. It is so cute! She is gonna make an offer with the contingency of the sell of her house here in Midland.
Well my DSis's drove back to Midland & I went back home to help the guys work on getting that entertainment center put together. It was so hard! Nothing lined up! We came to the point of putting the electric heater in it (they had been working on it for 4 hours by this time) & decided to put in in place before finishing it up. It was gonna be heavy w/that heater in it. Sigh, it won't fit!!!! We didn't even install that fireplace. DH measured it before we ordered it & I measured it later. We didn't take into account the corner of the brick hearth that it would go at an angle next to. Well, now it will go in the dinning room w/no TV on top of it. It will be nice to have that heater in there at times. I think I will put my embroidery machine on it as I don't want it in the carport till I get it finished out. I am so glad that there is a space between the top & the heater (to put the DVD or cable boxes in) so that it won't heat up my embroidery machine. http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif
We came back today. #1DSon left before I even woke up. http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif DH & I got home by 2:00. http://www.quiltinghaven.com/Smileys/default/smiley.gif
Well it looks like I wrote a book again. LOL

Oh but we love your little stories, Bev....Quiet day..just the Grands for T or T. Kids, big and little snarfed down both batches of caramel corn. Got the recipe years ago from HS friend

5 qts popped corn

1 c sugar
1 c brown sugar
1/2 c white corn syrup
1/2 t salt
1 c butter

Heat above over medium heat to boiling. Boil for 5 minutes...I like to stir with the flat bottom pancake turner...prevents scorching as you are constantly scrapping the bottom of the pan. After the 5 minutes add 1 t. vanilla and 1 t. baking soda. Stir well. This will foam up increasing the volume of the caramel. Pour over the popped corn in 2 metal cake pans. I use my large stainless steel bowl instead. Put in 250* oven for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Let cool, breaking up the clumps with wooden spoon, later you can use your hands. It cools fast and ready to eat soon afterwards...watch it it will disappear before you know it...

Playing with Time to Commit blocks...while that project simmers for inspiration I'm making a 16 block mini scrappy log cabin as a thank you for a box a scraps a quilt friend gave me. Think I will make a second one for this January's school fundraiser. Have a couple of ideas to sew as well. Back to the logs.....Seems like it's later than it is. Will watch my Sunday night programs while I sew...Later

Quilt finished this weekend..it was made for a 12 yr old girl. Her grandma had some fabrics (squares and 2 1/2" strips) so I used what she had and then bought a sheet set and used it for the borders and backing. The teal for the inner border and binding was from my stash.

I have another top done (finished at retreat)...sewed the backing together today and hope to get it sandwiched this week and quilt next weekend. It is for my niece who turns 5 this month. I haven't gotten a picture of that yet.

Life continues to be busy. DS turned 16 this weekend DD is 14 later this month.

Nice to hear from you, Carrie. Love your bright cheery quilt. Teal & purple are my favorite colors.

oksewglad 11-01-2015 09:41 PM

Hi Carrie...the sheet and your stash are perfect for the strips et al you had to work with. As Jan says...cheery quilt.

Enjoy your busy life...won't be long and the house will be empty....

Have last round on the mini logs left...time to call it a night

Lovely quilt, Carrie. Nice recipe, Ok. I was reminded this morning of Fat Quarter cuts on Face Book...thought I would pass it on... and remind everyone about Fat Quarter cuts... I tend to buy a half yard, that's two fat quarters or a whole yard that yields four Fat Quarters...if I love the fabric color. And buy common background fabric by the bolt to have it on hands to work with. Like Kona Off White called Snow White; Cream; Butter; Black; Maize. What colors do you favor in quilting?

JeanieG 11-02-2015 11:36 AM

I am a Moda Bella solids gal. I have the Color Chart and find it so helpful. Both Moda Bella and Kona Solids have color charts, I would not be without mine. I keep yard cuts (or more) of Bleached White, Ivory, Snow, Butter, Parchment, Fig Tree Cream, Natural and Black in my solids drawer. Along with others solids I have used.

Love that chart QNS! Thanks for sharing.
