I always have *plenty* of things "in progress". (Need an 'embarrased' emoticon.) No problem there!

Carrie, that's so great that your daughter enjoys sewing with you. My daughter is 30 and I have tried all her life to get her interested, including now leaving one of my featherweights at her house! She's made a few pillows and curtains for her house, but more as a means to an end than for any love of sewing.

I had plans to finish up a quilt today, the rest of the machine quilting and binding. Then I found out my dr.'s appt. is at 1:00 and not 3:45 like I thought! So I'd better get on that quilt...

Sewbizgirl sadly I have to admit I was the same way as your daughter when I was her age. My mother would mention how I could start a quilt with some simple squares and just piece them by hand etc. She would even give me some she would cut out for me. I did not have the passion for it then. I did make curtains and even managed to make a very simple skirt and jacket at that time. I enjoyed using the sewing machine back then. My first old singer mom gave me at 16. I loved it. Had one old Kenmore that used cams for a few different stitches and loved it for what I did. I hated cutting things out with those thin tissue patterns. lol.. I went to many fabric stores back then with mom as she would pick out fabric. Those stores were everywhere around our area in those days, but none in my own county now. I did (mainly for mom) make one whole quilt in my 20's sewing together just square blocks. It was the ugliest quilt I have ever seen, but I did put the middle and backing on and hand sewed every part of it. It was nice and warm, but very ugly.

Then after I retired from teaching due to my health in 2010, it wasn't long that I started hand piecing a quilt again, and enjoyed it, but at this point I am much older, and needed something to do with my mind and hands. I made one Bow Tuck Purse that mom couldn't believe I made. lol.. Mom then starting giving me some fabric to use, and I went out and bought some very pretty and nice fabric to make my mom a pretty Bow Tuck. I ask her if I could, and she said yes make me one. I knew she was getting sicker, because she never would have said that before.

Mom gave me another machine that I still have, but she died before I got her Bow Tuck Made. I would give anything today to have her going to fabric shops with me and us sewing together. Why things happen when they do I will never know. But I feel she left all of her passion for sewing with me to carry on, and that helps me today. :)

Susan, that's a wonderful memory of your mom. She did instill a love for sewing in you. It just took time to grow.

Bev, lovely that your daughter is interested in sharing your sewing passion. It's such a great skill to have!

The first sewing project my mother gave me was to make a quilt. That's how she taught me to use the machine, but I didn't finish it because I thought it was ugly, just like your first quilt, Susan... at least you finished yours! :-) I still have mine in a box somewhere and when I get it out, I'll probably like it better just because of the memories of it. I don't have a daughter to sew with, carriem you are so lucky! but I sew with my sister, so that's nice too.

My DGM taught me how to sew on her Singer Treadle machine, which I still have. Daughters are not interested in it or sewing with me 'cause they live too far away from us, seldom come for a visit. Have not found a friend who will quilt with me every week or every month. Don't have a sister I can 'escape' to for a few days. Sigh.:thumbdown:

Have fouind lady friend or neighbors that will take me to great quilt places or to town.:o

I took pictures of my Irish Chains and will post later today....after a morning trip today with neighbor lady. Dh is very happy she is taking me and he can stay home, so its a win win situation for both of us.

Great news on the check ups for OK and QNS. Had mine this morning and got the usual "lose weight & quit smoking" but all tests great so I'm relieved.

Sewbizgirl all of your quilts are so pretty, and beautiful colors. I know you stay very busy. Marty is such a sweetie. What type dog is he? All dogs are mostly one type though, and that is lovable.

JanRN your quilt is looking amazing. It's a treat to get to see them in a quit.

I got my last house plant re-potted today. Now if they all keep growing. One of the plants I re-potted I just don't know. It's a cactus. One of those type with tiny fuzzy sticky things that will irritate your skin, and it grows upward tall and lanky looking.

Dad gave me this little piece cut off of the bigger one mom had in their kitchen window before dad had to go into the nursing home. He told me this story of how mom's oldest sister who is no longer with us gave her hers as a tiny one when she came to visit from Chicago, and I don't know where she got it from. Mom never told me anything about it. Dad said to plant it in some soil mixed with sand. Well I did, and now it's about a foot tall.

I looked it up the other day, and it says it can grow up to 30 feet tall. That must be like if planted out doors in Arizona or somewhere, but it wouldn't make it outside where I live. So it's a potted plant that I have inherited. I feel like I am indebted to it now to keep it on in the family. If it gets to where I can't handle it later guess who I will pass it on too? My dear son. I will pass the story on to him too. :)
