Anael, that pic is adorable. Love the snuggly. I agree with you: keeping a positive attitude in NICU is so important! Babies sense feelings and respond to them even if we don't see a visible response.

Carrie, it took me 4 1/2 hours just to cut the fabric!! I never even turned my machine on. They compare their patterns to puzzles. I compare it to lasagne: lots of prep time then put it together LOL.

JanRN I am feeling your frustration with PB patterns I have started her Out of the Darkness quilt and it takes me all day to cut 1 blocks, stupidly I counted how many pieces in the block I am making, 234 in an 18inch block are we mad or what..takes me 2 days to piece one blocks and lots of reverse sewing....
I have made her Colorado Star quilt (think that is the name for it) gave it to DS and he has loved it to death, time I made him another.

Here are the instructions for the Split 4 Patch block.

Start with 4 x 7 inch squares, sew together into a 4 patch

Press, and using a long ruler make 4 cuts on the 4 patch, one at 1 1/2 inches either side of the centre seams both horizonally and vertically. Do not move the fabric as you cut, just rotate your board

Now rotate the centre skinny pieces and your blocks should look like mine.

Sew into rows and then into a 9 patch

I hope I have explained that clearly, if not just holler.

In the second photo I moved the sections apart so you could see where I had made the cuts,
It took me about 10 minutes to make the blocks so really quick and easy..

Mirabelle--looks quick and easy. I'll have to try that next time instead of a D9P when I need a quick quilt.

I have printed the first block for the Jinny Beyer quilt, it is similar to Moonglow which she made about 10 years ago. I made that as a BOM and it taught me to paper piece as her instructions only came with templates:D
And guess what I have in my stash, I do like border prints and when I find a good one I generally buy it not knowing what I will make out of it. If we decide to go ahead with JB's this will probably me my main fabric, what do you think.
I still like the Compass blocks and if we decide on those I will be making them out of batiks.
Just to be cheeky, anyone got a third option:D, so many quilts to make only so many hours in a day.

Now DH has gone back to work so I am off to the sewing room:eek:

Carriem it is quick and easy, I found the D9P confusing when putting it together as you had to lay it out and turn blocks, this is a lot easier.

Thanks Anael, I downloaded them into all into one document. I often take a small white board along when we travel. I don't know if I would ever be proficient enough to do this on a "real" quilt, but I would like to learn the concept. Thanks so much for giving us the link!

Anael ... yes, I can imagine the horrid thoughts with the phone call DDIL. Glad it was just an update from the Dr. as to the changes. Not to worry, about your non-IRL-quilting as you're doing lots of it virtually for now! Which is all good! Me-thinks you must be tired .... I think your 5AM in post #1399, was meant to be PM? A very fashionable MissIsa modelling her flowery-snuggle!!! :D Not much weight gain, may not seem like much ... but figure it out in %, and do the % gain for yourself and you'll probably soon think it's a HUGE gain! :) It's so good that the medics are keeping a good eye on DDIL/DS!! And ever so important that they leave their worries outside the NICU ... babies will pick up on the fears and tears! They need only positivity!

GGal ... thanks for the JBeyers suggestion and I do like it! The baby quilt is officially done now, except for the label. Will try to get it's photo op tonight and post ....... then let the ponies take off again!

About JBeyers ... Checked the online links and can't get into them. Any suggestions as to how to get there? ITA that it like a good workable pattern that could be done without needing to buy the JB border fabrics. At least that is what I am thinking without seeing the info in the links. Plus I'd really like to use from my stash as much as possible. What attracts me here is that it could be very tasteful, without a lot of scrappy look to it. Of course, I might change my mind when I see the links! And the rumours of y-seams are making me have 2nd thoughts already ... and joining you, JanRN!

MiraB ... you and JanRN are turning me against that designer! Though is 234 pcs for an 18" any worse than some of our PC/FWS blocks .... let's see, there'd be 9 FWS blocks, so only 26 pieces ........ so just think of it as FWS and it should be easy-peasy! Like how you did the D4P in rectangles instead of the traditional squares. For the D9P ... I didn't twist and turn the blocks, just traded upper right with lower left, and kept them the same way up. Then sewed them back together ... and then later joined all the blocks, facing the same directions.
