Great block. You can do the blocks anyway you like, scrappy or all in a theme. The reason I went with a 10" block this time as so many blocks we've done in past have been 12 1/2", just wanted something different. These are your blocks so make out of anything you want..

DianeR 01-05-2017 03:38 PM

Nice block Delphina. Like the pretty floral fabric you have used.

OH my gosh,Bibliostone, that is just gorgeous.. Are you going to use the same fabrics for all? Glad to see ya.

Jean

bibliostone 01-05-2017 09:36 PM

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I will make my blocks with red and gray fabrics and hope to mix them with some 9 inch blocks done in red and gray that were part of a block of the month a LQS did a few years ago. I know they are stored in a blue backpack, I just have to find it. I thought I would frame the 9 inch ones with black and it would look kind of like sashing if I alternate them with these.

Been away from the board for a while for family reasons but thought I might join you so made my block yesterday. It turns out 10 1/4 not 10 1/2 :-(

Oksewnsew 01-06-2017 06:49 AM

That will be a striking quilt, Bib...I love reds and grays/blacks together. Pippa, glad you've joined in..Is there a way you could steam your block a bit and stretch it to 10 1/2"? I've had to do that and just a wee bit of work and it'll measure correctly. This is YOUR block, so do what you need to do to make it work. Welcome.

Jean

I got my block done but do not know how to put it on this board, and I do not know how to make it small enough. Can some one help me please? Thanks in advance.

See that, you did it, you got it posted. And a nice looking block too. Need to get mine done this weekend I am hoping.

Hi all, I had fun putting my block together this evening. I found some 1/2 metre pieces I bought while visiting the USA a few years ago. I was saving them for a specific project. It appears THIS is the project!! I hope you like it...
Thanks Jean for a adventure!! Hugs!! Jacquie xxx

Oksewnsew 01-06-2017 11:37 AM

Very pretty Jacquie, glad you're along for the ride. I love the printed pc in your block, striking...

I did it but don't really know what or how I did it...

bibliostone 01-06-2017 05:32 PM

Ha, yeah, I am getting a little tired of that fabric even though I still love it. I've backed two quilts with it and used it in two booms. I think this project will finish it up!

Belfrybat 01-06-2017 07:12 PM

I"m joining in as well. I pulled the fabrics but life took over today so I didn't get the block made. Will make it over the weekend and post on Monday. Since we only do one block a month, I think I might make two in coordinating colours so I'll end up with enough for a quilt at the end of the year.

Oksewnsew 01-06-2017 07:23 PM

That is what is so neat about this - you can add more blocks, or make double of each block posted. Like I posted earlier, I've made 2 quilts with mixed blocks and they turned out neat. It's a great way to make blocks you might not make normally..Glad to see so many liking this. ;o)

Barb in Louisiana 01-06-2017 08:38 PM

Count me in. I'll be pulling fabric tomorrow morning and making my block. There are some pretty blocks already being posted.

Oksewnsew 01-06-2017 09:03 PM

Hi Barb, welcome..I hope you'll have fun with the different blocks..

jacquie 01-06-2017 11:10 PM

Exactly Jean, I also find that it can be easy to stay in your 'comfort zone' avoiding certain techniques or types of block. This is a great way to try other blocks you maybe wouldn't consider. We can add blocks, subtract, alter as these belong to us and we can do whatever we please! There are no 'quilt police' here!! Hahaha...
The other great thing is we are making these together! Help and tips are always at hand :)
Hugs all!!! xxx

Welcome back Pippa! I find the more seams involved in a block then better to use a 'scant' 1/4" seam. Moving your machine foot a touch to the right if your machine allows will give you the scant 1/4" seam you need. Hopefully then you will get your 10 1/2" block... Hope this helps

Would love to join but this is finish UFOs and I'm in two other BOMs, if it goes on next year I'll be ready. Have fun all!

AnngelAnne 01-07-2017 05:51 AM

So I went back over the list and didn't see any other rules but the block needed to be 10 inches and to post if we want to be in this. I am hoping basically it is mostly piecing but will go with the flow the best I can. Will post later. Thanks,

Oksewnsew 01-07-2017 07:29 AM

That's about it AnngelAnne, your UNfinished block will, or should measure 10 1/2". This is YOUR block, whatever block is chosen, hopefully it will be a learning experience for all. If there's a block that you think might be difficult, just holler, there's always help. There are no 'quilt police' lurking..lol If ever there's a block you don't want to tackle, skip that month and rejoin later. Hope that helps.

Actually, yes, thanks, that helps a lot. See what I can do. If nothing else, have fun, lol.

Thanks for letting me join Jean! Here is my Block for January. I chose a package of 12 fat quarters "Tonga Cabana" That has been sitting in a drawer waiting patiently for the right project. I will add some yardage for the rest of the quilt, but it should be enough for 12 blocks. The block is square, I just didn't get it hanging straight on the board. Laura

Oksewnsew 01-07-2017 06:08 PM

Great blocks, girls - I'm so glad to see everyone enjoying this.

pippa 01-08-2017 01:12 AM

Thanks Jacquie. I thought I had a 1/4" seam. I have a new Bernina foot which is supposed to do just that! I have done it again converting the measurements to centimeters which I use more often and it came out fine.

LindaC 01-08-2017 12:37 PM

so I've made my block but can't find how to attach a photo from my phone so it's going to have to wait till tomorrow as I have to charge the camera battery.

My block is finished. I'm using a FQ bundle from Connecting Threads called "Golden Age". I plan on making a second one in the same colourway so I'll have enough for a quilt at the end of the year.

How do you decide each month's name to pick her favorite?

From post #24 above:

I will draw a name and they will pick a block, let me know what it is and link and I will post around the first of the month. IF we have more than 12 that posts pictures, then will have to decide then. Participants need to post pictures in order to be in the next month. Hope that makes sense..

Jean

Oksewnsew 01-09-2017 01:46 PM

I will just draw a name, I think..lol That's how it stands right now.. ;o) Thanks Belfrybat...we were answering at same time..
