Its even easier if, before you cut off the extra triangles, sew on the line as usual, then move over 1/2 inch and stitch a second diagonal line. Now cut between the stitched lines and your little cut-off triangles are already stitched together into HST. Its faster and easier than working with the little cut off pieces.

Wow, that is a great idea! Thanks:-)

How do you make it so perfect. I think mine look pretty good and then take a picture and post it and then see where things don't line up too great. Very nice blocks.

Thank you for saying that. My blocks have improved a lot since I joined the Bee. I am using a scant 1/4" foot and that has really helped. Also the June Taylor Perfect Half-Square & Quarter- Square Ruler that @Just Jan told me about has worked wonders in cutting out squares and triangles. My rotary cutting is getting better as well.

Your top is going to be just beautiful! Great squares.

tscweaves 08-08-2017 02:17 PM

I still have so make-up blocks to do. I received my gib hook for my Featherweight today, so maybe I can work on a new square tonight.

happylab 08-08-2017 02:52 PM

I like the blocks sewn so far. All very nice. I will start cutting my out after I finish a few other projects.

Here is another make-up block, this is one from June, Baton Rouge Square. What a little stinker this was! I had to remake one of the HST's three times! I just did not know what was going on. One of them I was trimming to 2.5" and sliced it at 1.5"! Gremlins, it just had to be gremlins. That makes a dozen blocks so I am getting there.

carrot 08-09-2017 04:29 PM

Those pesky little Gremlins !!!:D

Just Jan 08-09-2017 05:06 PM

Those gremlins visited me today, too! I was supposed to be making 1-1/2" little 4-patches and when they were done they were 2-1/2"! Fortunately I was able to cut them down! I know those little gremlins do their stuff then hide in the corners laughing as we unravel their input!

Lovely blocks being shown! I'd hate to have to choose a favorite...

For an extra block, I'm making "Crazy Anne" from Marcia Hahn's Quilt Blocks Galore. It goes so well with last month's "Midnight Pinwheels."

tscweaves 08-10-2017 03:35 AM

I always thought that gremlins only came to bother looms and weavers:-) The elves are much friendlier, they want to help and not be sassy.

I agree that there are just beautiful blocks being made, it really helps to see how other quilters bring colors together. The color interaction is so different from weaving, but just as wonderful and surprising.

petuniaflowers 08-10-2017 03:47 AM

Wowsa! Thanks for that tip!

WOW Such pretty purple blocks! I just made another version of Crazy Anne. I call it Country Style Crazy Anne. Boy, what a difference fabric selections make! I'm going to make more of the country blocks in different colors for a small lap quilt for myself. My kitchen isn't any cleaner yet, but I now have new blocks! :o

!WOW! didn't realize I've been missing in action for a while. Such beautiful blocks. Loved the purples. I still haven't done mine yet, still in the dumps. Missing my dad, mom, and sister. The good Lord took them away and left me behind. I guess the good Lord still has something left for me to do. (LOL)

Keep the pictures coming love looking at all the great blocks and the colors...

Just thought I would drop by and say hi. All the August blocks look good to me. As I stated the first of this month, my kitchen and dinning area are under renovation. It is almost done. I am in hopes I will atleast get the blocks cut out this weekend. Hoping to have my sewing machine back in place at some point next week. I am missing quilting so much.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Hope to post pics of my blocks soon.

Fabric Galore 08-11-2017 07:31 AM

I love the August blocks and the extra blocks that have been made. I haven't touched my piecing this month because I have been hand quilting as much as possible. This wedding quilt is like a giant gorilla sitting in my living room and I can't wait to finish it and move on to something new. I hope I can make my blocks next week.

carrot 08-11-2017 02:15 PM

I did manage to get my chain link block done. It came out a perfect 11" unfinished;) I trimmed it and I think it will be fine. Now I am waiting for more of you lovely ladies to post your blocks!! I am trying to decide if I want to do the Jack in the Box in 2-3-or 4 color way. Loving all the ways I have seen so far. Have to decide by Sunday-- so let's see more pictures !!!!

I love everyone's blocks!

I was surprised this block went together so easily even with the partial seam. I usually shy away from partial seams but maybe I will be braver now. Lol! I did need to trim around the whole block but that's ok. I like how it looks.

Connie, great contrast.

Fabric Galore 08-13-2017 12:34 PM

Biblio, you did a great job on your block. I have got to get busy this week and make at least 1 block for August.

carrot 08-13-2017 04:06 PM

I cannot upload a picture !!! I have always taken a picture with my IPhone. Emailed it to myself. Right clicked on the photo and upload to my computer. Then I posted. For some reason when I right click on the photo nothing comes up so I can upload. Anyone have any suggestions?

jaba 08-13-2017 04:27 PM

Don't know carrot, but yesterday when I posted pics it was very very slow before it finally came on and I knew it was posted. Not this thread but others.

carrot 08-14-2017 07:53 AM

You know when you are trying to figure something out and you are just stumped ? Then you wake up at 2 AM and go "duh !!" That was me early this morning. Just had to plug my phone into my computer and import the picture !! TaDa!!!

well darn-- upload failed--- I will keep trying !!!

carrot 08-14-2017 08:30 AM

I have to resize.............I have done this in years.... might take me awhile !!!!

I made the extra July block so I could have enough to finish my baby quilt top. I hopefully will finish the top tomorrow.

jaba 08-15-2017 02:31 PM

I don't think so Libster, or she missed me :( I didn't even get a little scrap of fabric to think about :)

Here are my most recent blocks in a baby quilt top that is 39" by 45". The backing will be the panda fabric. It will be sandwiched and finished by volunteers at a charity.

I like your idea of using the backing in the front too, very nice. It leads me to a question I am going to throw out there. If you do the backing with flannelette, or something of that nature, could you also do what you just did with the top? Mix two different types of materials together? I have done the flannel in the back for baby blankets and they loved it, but to use it in the front to??

Oksewnsew 08-16-2017 07:18 AM

Very nice Retiredteacher, like the combo of the blocks. YES Ann, you can mix the fabrics. I have a throw I did years ago and it's still in use today...Be sure to wash/dry your flannel first, it has a tendency to shrink. It sure makes them cuddly. :)

No, haven't picked another block yet. Let me see what I can find. Will try to post later, ok? :)

AnngelAnne 08-16-2017 07:28 AM

Okay great on the mixing of fabric, all these brainstorm ideas and now to try to do them, lol. Thanks.
