Well, I usually am done earlier in the month...but I've had a bunch of projects on my plate in August. Here are the two blocks for this month and the group of navy/green/white blocks I've completed.

Love those greens. They just pop!

That's going to be stunning chasezz! Are you going to sash it?
|
Thanks for all the kind words! Yes, I think I will sash it, Jaba. And I haven't figured out positions for the blocks, just laid them out on the floor today for the picture.

Here are the projects that have been keeping me busy over the last six weeks or so...the king size top (Compass Roses, kit from Craftsy) is off at the long-armer's. The two lap quilts were made from the leftovers. Craftsy truly is generous with kit fabrics.

WOW!! Beautiful tops! Somebody is gonna' luck out when they get these. These are beyond well done.

OK, OK, so it's the 17th-I've been trying to decide whether to do another block but so many have asked....so here is another block to do, or not do, tis totally up to you. It's a little different. Enjoy. :)

chasezzz-- WOW!!!! They are beautiful ! Love all the blocks everyone is doing. I am saving the "extra" block patterns till the end - have to see how much fabric I have left.
Can anyone suggest an easy resizing site for pictures? I have tried a couple but either download failed or my old brain could not figure them out!!!:D |
Well, Carrot, this is how I do mine. I save my picture to the Desktop, then right clk on it and click PAINT...can resize in there...Just play with it to see which you like. I always save as, so if it isn't the size I want, can go back to original and try another size. I usually go for 25-35%. That's how I do it..
|
I resize my pictures in Paint too, at 25%. Easy to do.

I have been using my Samsung tablet for my pictures and downloaded an app called "photo and picture resizer" (go figure LOL), anyway, it has been working well for me.
Chasezzz - seeing your latest tops almost made me click on Craftsy and go shopping:-) Really beautiful tops. I think that "Crazy Anne" is just perfect for bonus block, I just printed it out and will probably work on it over the weekend. Thanks for the new pattern! |
I'm working on the new pattern too. The outer units were a breeze going together. But..The four center units are not coming out to size for me. I've already made those little suckers over 3 times, still not right size. I'm going to sleep on it and go at it again tomorrow. I may redesign them for my block. Did I mention I hate paper piecing? LOL
|
HAHAHAHA :D :D LOLO. Ann that is so funny...I never thought of that when I found the pattern...Please don't take it to heart.. :)
Lipster, did you print off the template? You don't have to do paper piecing, but is good for learning. Try printing off the template as stated in the heading.. |

Try printing off the template as stated in the heading.. I just came up with a great idea thanks to everyone on this board. We were talking about piecing the back of the quilt instead of using one piece. I think I will take every block that doesn't come out right and put them together for the back, see that, end of frustrations... hummmmmm interesting thought. Still loving all this. Guess it doesn't take much to amuse me. |
I've done both and they still don't work for me. The length of the unit is coming up short for me.
|
I love your quilts, Chasezzz. I have signed up for several classes with Craftsy but I've been so busy I haven't taken advantage of them Thank God, there is no time limit on taking the classes. Someone will be very fortunate to have any of these quilts.
|
Lipster, (and anyone else that may have problems) well, curiosity got me so made up the top half of the new block. First one I used the template printed, the size turned out fine. Then I wondered if I could use my Recs tool, of the Tri-Recs set, and measured the paper template. It was perfect cutting it at the 4 1/2" line on the tool. So far so good, top half measured correctly too. I always use a scant seam allowance, would rather trim than not have size correct. Make sure the sheet you printed off w/the templates on it measures up...the little square shd be 1".
I hope you can get it to come out correctly - but if it doesn't work out, don't worry about it, it's just an extra block.. |
Connie: your quilt look really nice.
Chasezzz Love your Compass quilt and the other two are nice too but the Compass is my favorite. Everyone blocks are so colorful and they look great. Still haven't done mine. (LOL) |

Chasezzz, I really need paper piecing lessons, love the Compass quilt!! 1st of October I'll be back in Florida..hint...hint appointment maybe???
Oksewnsew, I used the tri-Recs also and must have put it on the wrong line but I could cut it down 1/8" all the way around and it was fine. When I used the template it was longer and narrower but my gauge was correct. Anyway after 2 tries it's done. |
Very pretty Jaba. Wish I could find more paisley fabric - it seems to be far and wide to find it. I got the other pcs cut and am ready to sew the middle and bottom sections together, and it all measures fine. Had to stop and work on another project, will get to it tomorrow.
Boy, it seems you just moved back from Florida - is it that time already? lolo |
It's gone pretty quick for me too but the 10th of October we've been in Wyoming 6months
|
Thanks all for the kind words on my tops...I do love paper piecing but admit the Compass Roses was quite an involved project! That quilt is for our bed. Jaba, happy to do a pp lesson when you get back! One thing that has made pp easier for me and allows me to do large complex projects without getting frustrated is to use translucent paper (no need for a light source). I have a stash of paper from Deb Kerasik that is translucent and cotton based (expensive but I asked my daughter for it for Christmas and she gave me a lot!). You also can use vellum.

I call it done, however imperfect. Who would have thought those little units would make me sweat blood? LOL
|
Jaba! I somehow missed you live in Wyoming - pretty obvious if I would have read below your avatar! I'm in Cheyenne for 12 months/year - no Florida for me
|
Oh Libster, that turned out gorgeous...practice makes perfect, so they say...and boy do I have a lot of practice..lolo When the 'not so perfect' blocks are in a quilt and done, you won't be able to see imperfections while on a galloping horse anyway... I'm proud you finished it.. yeaaaaa

I made the bonus last night and it didn't come out quite right. I think I am going to take it apart and try again. Its just a bit under in size. I was getting so pleased with myself when the last few blocks came out the right size so I don't want to go backwards:-)

I finished my jack in the box and the first extra block Plaid. I'll try working on the Crazy Anne block tomorrow (funny enough that is my MIL's name /giggle) I'll post pics tomorrow. I'm also branching out to some new things for the next arts and craft faires. I do dog accessories and one of them is a bow tie. Until now, they've been in cotton but now I'm trying leather! I hope it works well. I'm going to try my hand at leather collars too. It should be fun :) This is my stinky StringBean modeling his bow tie. It's took me 20 mins. to get him to sit still for this. :D

I was able to get my Jack in the box, Plaid and Crazy Anne block done. This sure is going to be a bright quilt. But, I guess that just means it's going to be a Spring/Summer.

Oh Angie, it certainly will be pretty - nice and bright. Carrot, ya done good. You might try 25 or 35% next time - but at least you got the gist of it..HOORRAAYYY... ;o)

This block was named correctly - it drove me crazy! I lost count how many times I took pieces apart or recut and took apart. It was just one block but I was determined to get it to the right size. It looked soooo easy, fooled me:p
