DublB ... By chance, do you have any pics to show me! Are these narrow borders, the same as the flanges that some use? If you have any or can point me in the direction, I'd be interested to see them. Thanks!
It's a DP9 The maroon border is 1/4 inch. I felt that these borders toned down the bright quilt. I'm hoping that the quilting will deemphasize the swastika. I did not plan on that happening! The trick to making these borders is to put the 1/4 foot on the inside of the small border & run it along the seam. Most of the quilt goes through the neck of the machine 'cause you are doing it backwards. Clear as mud? Maybe I'll take a picture tomorrow. |

hhhmmmmm!!!! You're giving me something to think about!Although I hesitate, as the quilt is busy enough with all the different blocks, different fabrics, and different looks ... would it not be too much?I kind of like the idea, though!Must watch for some pics of that technique. How wide were the coping strips? sashing? and blocks?Did they still use cornerstones? or omit them? It'd be a good way to make a smaller quilt, larger ... not that this is an issue with the PC!

I went & looked at that link. Oh such pretty quilts! The red & white one did demonstrate these tiny borders quite well. Thanks for the link! I've got some errands ta run today but I'll see about putting a little border on my Quilt Story Block & take picts later th'safternoon. This block didn't come out right so I'll make it into a pillow ta match the quilt & make another ta go in the quilt.
(Th'safternoon is exactly how I pronounce this afternoon. All one word with the s blending into the a!:)) |

Is everyone watching QNS do her little happy dance--"Put your little foot, put your little foot ...." Oh so bright and cheerful QNS.
Jan your balance of colors is wonderful. I see complementary colors (orange/blue and red/green combo's) so nicely placed with the neutrals (browns/creams) dublb--great teeny red border strip set in the blue Fusions fabric; and a cheery DP9 quilt to boot! |

Yes I thought of that one too, but the print (love the paisleys!!) is a little too big for a 1 inch square and would change from square to square and you'd loose the continuity. (Ask me how I know this?)

QNS, great blocks, love your use of color. Your blocks have lots of movement and work so well together.
Fryguy, I don't think the black is overwhelming (Altho I use a lot of black and maybe don't notice it as much as others might). I think your blocks are really nice and have a nice balance to them. |
