I have seen the surgeon as well as talked with another doctor...the surgeon wants to do a "guided" injection of cortisone (by ultrasound to get it placed where things are flared up). I am not thrilled with the idea of a 3rd injection in as many months since the first two made the pain terrible (unable to use my hand for the first 5 days) and then the pain wasn't any better after that, if anything after the 2nd it seemed worse.
I was having my elbow checked out for scar tissue by another doctor through ultrasound and I mentioned my thumb so he did an ultrasound on that too an said it is arthritis of the CMC joint (base of my thumb) and he thinks I would be a better candidate for laser therapy than an injection. Insurance doesn't cover that and no guarantee it will work or how long it will last... So today I called the office I found with a Hand Therapy Specialist listed...I talked to the therapist quite some time and she has some ideas she thinks will help...so I go next Thursday for my first appt. She works with the doctor who recommended the laser treatments so he was good to give me a referral so insurance will be happy too! |
Carrie - so sorry you have been through the mill with your thumb! My hand problems were all from arthritis too. I think you will like the hand therapist! They are just amazing - at least mine was! Prayers for improvement soon!

Hi everyone - I took another picture of my FW Medallion Quilt. I have managed to keep caught up with the two blocks a week, I cannot believe we are Week 25!
Here is a picture of the blocks in the current round, also a few of my Grassy Creek blocks. I have 19 of 25 blocks of the Grassy Creek Mystery completed, I am in no hurry, and the blocks go together easily compared to some of Bonnie Hunter's Quilts. The sashing strips are complicated though, and I have been working on them as leader/enders with the main blocks. |
OH, Jeanie! I love your FW medallion blocks. I zoomed in to get a real good look at each of 'em. They are so purdy. I like your Grassy Creek blocks also. They don't seem as busy as some that I have seen. Much more calming. I guess it's that you used blenders mostly.

Yes Bev - I do not use fabrics for Bonnie's quilts that have a lot of bright designs in them. I do not care for all that busyness. My neutrals are usually very plain. I always enjoy doing her mysteries, and I always stick with her colors, as I have seen some real disasters when other colors are used. I think I am afraid to change the colors because of that.
I enjoy doing the 2 blocks a week for the Medallion Quilt. It is easy to keep caught up. By the end of February we will be through with the next round that we will attach these to the already completed section. |

I've done very little sewing recently. I have been spending my time mostly working on sewing machines. It sure takes me so much longer than I ever thought it would.
