juliasb, I'm in Michigan too! I don't have a Featherweight, but I have a Singer Red Eye. I love the way it sews, so smooth and creamy. If you want to work on the Farmer's Wife Pony Club quilt, use this thread to post pictures. Or the FW 1930's Sampler, or FW Bible Sampler. The FW Medallion Quilt (another sampler) has a dedicated thread.
The FW books are written by Laurie Hird, I bought the books in a large part because I really like reading the pioneer stories published in the FW Magazine, which LH quotes in her books. I encourage you to do one of the quilts-- such darling little 6" blocks with 40 or 50 little pieces! But the PC is 8" blocks, and easier. The PC is her first book, and the format she used for block construction improved with her later books. carriem, nice to see you at the OS BOM. :-) |

I gather this is a FW group. I love my 2 FW's. One is a 1946 and the other a 1952. (I may be wrong on the second one) Both are in fine working order and I made a quilt top with the younger one a couple months ago. This may sound a bit crazy but I am very protective of them. Thanks for letting me join you here.
As far as Featherweights go, I have one & loooove it!!! |

Hi everyone! Not much chatter here lately! I finished the flimsy of my Bonnie Hunter Grassy Creek Mystery at long last! I think it has taken the longest of any of her quilts to complete. I took my time, no hurry here. I only have a binding on another quilt to do! It has been a flimsy since May 2012! Lol!!! I will post a photo later.
It is crazy how long I have had the flimsies around. I have so many to quilt, and that is my goal for this year - finish these darn things (although I know I will not get half of them quilted). I have 16 flimsies I need to quilt! I managed to quilt four quilts last year, however, I started four other projects! Thankfully they are at flimsy stage. My only saving grace is that all of my projects are at Flimsy stage!!! I am still working on 2 blocks a week of the FW Medallion quilt - I have managed to keep caught up on that project. Anyway here is a picture of my Grassy Creek Flimsy! |
That is amazing, JeanieG! And huge... Well done!

I like your Grassy Creek! Your border fabric is perfect!!!!!!
It's cold here. Colder than I like it. Our lows are supposed to get down to 2*F Monday night. |
Thank you sewbiz and Bev! Man 2* is really getting down there Bev! Good Grief!
I have an awesome panel to put on the back. I am getting ready to sew it together, plus sew on my binding on my Bittersweet Quilt. |
Jeanie, I agree that border looks very nice on your top. Congrats on all your flimsy finishes! It's an accomplishment.

Jeanie! Thanks for sharing your quilt top with us. :) It is so pretty!!
We have just been trying to stay warm around here. I haven't done a lot of sewing...just the Round Robin borders as they get here. Oh and I am doing a BOM...Feb was just released, I'll work on that this week. The other thing I need to do this week is cut fabrics for the quilt I am going to work on in a couple weeks at a retreat I'm going to...used to go to this one twice a year but haven't been in several years so really looking forward to it!! I've been to PT a couple times (had to cancel last week due to migraines), 2 appts scheduled for this week. I am not in constant pain any more so not sure if that is just because of PT or because I am babying my thumb/wrist. Time will tell. Thankful for any improvement at this point! |
Thanks Givio and Carrie!
Glad your hand seems to be getting better Carrie. It must feel great to be able to get back to doing something that you love to do. |
I am also trying to stay warm. We got down to 0*F early this morning. I'm not working on machines. It is too cold out by my workbench. The space heater just isn't enough to keep me out there.
