GrannyQ keeping you in my prayers, hope everything goes well for you.

I have been home for a couple of hours, am really brain dead after a big weekend on the mountain. DD has just left to drive home to her place. We had the power go out late Saturday afternoon but it was back on by dinner time.

Here is my first block all finished with triangles attached.

mirabelle 09-07-2013 08:12 PM

I am just reminding you that I said I was tired, I already posted a pic of my block:D it is definitely time for a nana nap...

I finally found the back ground fabric, Fairy Frost Ivory last week. You can't see it in photo 2
but you can see the "glitz" in photo 1.
Now on to block 2

frustratedquilter40 09-08-2013 07:46 AM

Caroline S your block looks great love your color choices! I also used a fairy frost I have for the yellow centerpart. Came across a piece of white last night in my stash but not a very large piece.

Happily Singing The Blues!

Here's my first block, all in blues. I've been digging deep into the my mounds of scraps and have found enough blues to create my own Great Lake so my theme for this quilt-along will be scrappy and blue. I haven't settled on the corner triangles yet but they will be slight different than the published pattern. I'm always hyper-critical of my own work and now is no exception. Not perfect but presentable and I'm happy with it.

frustratedquilter40 09-08-2013 03:14 PM

dutchie... love your block too!! I am partial to blues myself.

JeanieG 09-08-2013 03:46 PM

Caroline and Dutchie - WOW - beautiful! So much fun to see all the blocks being posted. Darn the colors won't work again today. Is anyone else having this trouble? When I click on the color - it goes way to the left off the page and does not work. WWhenW D

My K(iller) K(itty) left the cutting mat so I'm working on block # 2 but it's driving me crazy. I seem not be able to wrap my mind around the pieces........maybe I have to search for my brain first? I might have left it in the bedroom this morning

post #353 in original SYE post for block #1(see attachment)

post #433 in original SYE post for block #2:

I already had these measured, so didn't pay attention to if there were any updates after these were posted...

added--just saw this for block #1: "It is definitely time for me to put my head on a pillow,,, if you are going to use my cutting for the first block #3 should be 1 3/4 x 4 3/4... "

SO here is the cutting instructions for Block 2

#1 1 1/2 x 3 1/4
#2&3 3 1/2 x 2
#4 3 x 1 1/2
#5&9 2 1/4 x 1 1/2
#6 3 x 2
#7&11 3 x 1 1/2
#8 4 x 1 1/2
#10 3 1/2 x 2 1/2
#12 3 1/2 square
#13&16 5 x 3 1/2 cut in half on the diagonal
#14&17 4 x 2
#15&18 3 1/2 square

TIP. As there is a lot of background for this block I cut a strip the width of the fabric by the largest measurement, in this case 5 inches and will subcut my units until it is all gone, then cut another strip from the largest measurement left. I have found over the years that hacking into a piece for random units uses more fabric. I hope this makes sense.

deranged_damsel 09-09-2013 04:54 AM

THANKS Mirabelle :D you the bestest!!!

DogHouseMom 09-09-2013 07:48 AM

Just FYI ... the September block is posted on the Quilting on the Square site.

JeanieG 09-09-2013 09:33 AM

Anael - my kitty does the same thing - has to be in the middle everything. Trying to quilt is a pain - he just loves the sandwiched quilts, and he gets upset if I move him off to quilt anther area! LOL

kwiltkrazy 09-09-2013 10:19 AM

Wow. this sure is a beautiful pattern. You ladies are so fabulous at colors. After seeing your blocks, I have decided to re-do my block.

Aww I am sure it is great! Sometimes we are harder on ourselves wish we could see your 1st blck. But that is okay I understand if you are not happy with it then that is all that matters. Will wait and see your new creation then :)

sunrise450 09-09-2013 02:01 PM

These are so beautiful! I think I want to do this also. I will make the first block to see if I "can" do this, if so can I just join along? Any rules to follow?

mirabelle 09-09-2013 02:14 PM

sunrise450 we are doing one block per fortnight with block 2 posted on the 17th September. You will have to download your patterns from Quilting on the Square (they are free). If you wish to read the original post for the SYE BOM Quilt Along you will see the guidelines.

Number 1 rule is to have fun with it. I have posted the cutting instructions for the first 2 blocks as above and cutting instructions for block 3 is a couple of pages back.

Welcome and hope to see your blocks soon

mirabelle 09-09-2013 02:17 PM

Anael you are too funny, go find your brain and finish that block:D now to pop over to Quilting on the Square and download the next block, won't get to it today as still trying to catch up after the weekend. Pssstt I left my brain on the mountain:D and I'm not going back to find it

kwiltkrazy 09-09-2013 02:50 PM

Got the new pattern. Thank you.

Thank you for the new cutting sizes, I use to just whack, but I think this makes it less wasteful.

klgreene 09-09-2013 03:13 PM

Ladies, I love all your blocks. It's amazing how different they look with different fabrics. The second block we do, is that the second block of the series, or are we doing the Sept. block that was just posted. I'd like to get two more blocks done because I'll be gone for 2 week in October, so won't have as much time to do two blocks with all the other BOM's I'm doing. But I want to keep up.

carriem 09-09-2013 03:24 PM

The 2nd block is the 2nd one...May--Cactus Rose

klgreene 09-09-2013 03:26 PM

Thanks carriem I thought so, but I figured I do them in order so I don't get to confused.

dublb 09-09-2013 06:01 PM

OH my!!!!! I go outta town for 5 days & there are 10 pages!!! So many beautiful blocks!!!! I'm so tired from my retreat & like mirabelle I have left my brain in Granbury. Every block is so wonderful!!! I'll be a better encourager when I git enough sleep.

Ok, block one done. For some reason I have the rainbow song (red and yellow and pink and green....) stuck in my head. So each block is going to focus on a different color. This time was red, next block will be yellow, etc. We will see. It could all go very wrong, very quickly.

Anael 09-10-2013 07:43 AM

Beautiful marne! Why would it go wrong? With the rainbow colors you will end up with a Spike Your Rainbow English Quilt (or something like that :D). I love rainbows :)

i leave the paper ON when sewing the sections together, then remove it from the seam lines .

Another way to help it come off (but takes extra time) is to sew without thread on all lines before starting. I've also used kids writing tablets. Pages are a little smaller, but they go through the printer easily.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-10-2013 09:46 AM

Whatever works for you, the results are the greatest! Love the Red block..very well done. I would accept any one of blocks displayed here in a New York minute...for my own quilt or place mat. I was trying to pay close attention here, but had to go back and read the last three pages...its snail pace here with me and I am distracting by starting another different quilt pattern...like that is going to help the problem...its my excuse and I sticking to it.:D

JeanieG 09-10-2013 10:32 AM

Marne - that block is stunning! I really like it in all one color!
