Beautiful Gigi. It looks so different with the dark background. I wish you lots of luck on the quilting. It is going to be beautiful. Your blocks are bright bursts of color.
|
Looks wonderful Gigi!! Like Judith said, so different with the dark background fabric. Good luck!!! It will be gorgeous, you can do this!

Gi - I really enjoyed seeing your blocks. Like the others have said, the darker background color really makes your blocks pop - great choice! All those familiar blocks, just with a different look. I really enjoy seeing the variety in SBS quilts. It will be fun to see yours come together. Please keep posting pictures.
I was happy to realize I had miscounted, have only 11 more to go. Whoo-hoo - almost in the single digits! |
Yeahhh DonnaPea!!! Hang in there, you're almost finished!!! Sometimes, when I see blocks, I think......oh really, that one is a Sylvia block? Totally forgot which ones....hahaha!
Well done, I found the basket one a pain......had to redo that one because nothing fitted! Can't wait to see them together in a group shot :) |
Way to go Donna! I've still not got mine bound. Got distracted with the Row by Row, and now I have to get the others bound so they are ready to go to new homes on Aug 11th. I'm not giving up my Sylvia at this point, so it's at the end of the line for binding.
|
Gigi, that looks really nice. I love dark backgrounds like that.
|
Mine isn't even quilted yet Cathy :D :D You're way ahead of me!
|
Great blocks Donna Pea. I like this batch a lot. So much, I can't even pick a favorite. Almost single digits. Wowzers you are almost there. Great job!!
|
Gigi.....your SBS is going to be really unique. To me, it looks like an art quilt with the dark background and bright colors. Good luck assembling.
Donna....oh goodness...I remember when I only had 11 to go. Feels awesome! These blocks all turned out really pretty. I'm swooning over your dot collection in these blocks...Your Mariners star is gorgeous.....and love the baskets.. You both are staying focused with this project. Good for you! |

The count-down is on - 6 more to go! Whoo-hoo!
|
Amazing, Donna! Only six more?? Omg! Soooo close!
Gigi, I love the group picture! It's going to be a stunner! I have sewn a couple more of mine, G-10 and F-10. I can't take a photo yet as my DH takes the iPod, with the best camera, to work for his music. I have to learn to share :D. I'm trying to finish up some more tops before they become UFOs. |
DonnaPea, so sorry!! I asked for a group shot and didn't react .......beautiful!!!!!! It will be a gorgeous quilt once finished. And your new blocks, also lovely!! Great fuzzy cutting :)
Only 6 to go.......you rock!!! NZ, maybe your hubby needs to share :D :D |
Yea, Donna!!!! So exciting!!!!!! More great blocks....Y-seams and curves. Ugh! But, yours turned out awesome...
Hi, NZ!! Glad you are finding some time to squeeze in a couple of SBS blocks. UFO's are a priority, I'm sure. That's what is so great about SBS...a block here and there keeps you motivated to keep going. They are very addictive. Share pics when you can.... |
Donna Pea love your blocks!
|
Nice lot Donna Pea, you are very nearly there. I think it will bittersweet at the end. But also rewarding to take the next step.

A macro of a Thistle I took today.

Now that is an awesome picture. It's almost like a fabric panel.......wouldn't that be pretty as a center of a quilt?
|
Anael, gorgeous!!! I know they are weeds. (at least here) But, your photo makes it look majestic!

4 more to go! F-1 has a bit of a bump in the middle; I've heard them referred to as volcanoes. But my next step after finishing all the blocks is to go back, square them up, do a little polishing on some of them I'm not 100% pleased with. And that should be happening very soon!
|
Donna, great blocks. I love the color of F1. And, your bump isn't too bad. That just happens when you have a lot of seams. Did you press your seams open as you went along? Sometimes that helps.
|
I sometimes had to beat them into submission :D :D :D
Love your blocks and love the fabrics! Hang in there, you're almost done! |
Thank you all for your wonderful comments on my photo!!
It's a weed here too! Still they can be beautiful :) |
Yea, Donna!!! If you lay a heavy book on when it is still hot from pressing, that helps, too. Leave the book on it until completely cool. Others just use their 12" sq ruler but when I did that, my ruler started to warp. I did that on most of my SBS blocks cuz I wanted all of them as flat as possible.
|
Donna Pea this will be fun and done in no time! And yes a tap of a hammer will work for that center hump. Another option for the ruler is to get a piece of board...a 12 x 12 piece of pine would work nicely and lay that on top of the block after pressing and leave it on until cool. It's the same principle as using a tailors clapper. The wood absorbs the steam if you have used starch or plain water.
Ah the noxious thistle...one variety we have here is the musk thistle..so pretty and if you pull the purple flowerettes from the base they are sweet. I have seen cows eat the flowers...they must be craving some sugar! Here our state bird is the goldfinch and they love the thistle seed. So yes it is good for something! https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?id=A1e4f...5&pid=3.1&rm=2 |
Lovely picture OK!! Did you take it?
Here's the link to an album I created with photo's from my ride last Saturday. I thought it would be better to put them in an album rather than posting them all here. https://www.quiltingboard.com/member...bums20038.html |

Thanks for the tips about my bump in F-1. I will definitely give it a try. Only 2 left - I can hardly believe it! Didn't enjoy H-5, the Shooting Star, very much. Hard to work with such small pieces.
|
Lovely blocks, Donna! I understand that H-5 was a tricky one but I love it! Reminds me of the Christmas star. Only two more! Wow!
|
No Anael, I didn't take the photo...I'm not a very good photographer...which is why I enjoy looking at others photos!
|
Pretty blocks, Donna......I disliked the tiny pieces, too. Regardless, yours turned out great. The other block, Crown and Cross, I believe.....that is one of my favorite blocks in my quilt. Very pretty...
2 more to go...woohoo! |
DonnaPea, I use a tool called a Bias Edge Square. You can trim from 1/2 sq in" triangles up to 8" triangles. I never needed anything bigger. But, I believe the tool does come in a 12" square also.
You might want to look around and see if you can find one or something similar. Even JoAnn Fabrics might have something similar that you could buy with a coupon. I find this tool to be my most highly prized possession in the sewing room. My half square triangle blocks are almost always spot on when using the tool. My 8" Bias Square by the Patchwork Place in action. http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/...s/SAM_1527.jpg Example of tiny trimming. This is a 4.5 x 6.5" postcard. The 1/2 traingles measure 1.5" sq. All trimmed with my bias sq. ruler. http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/...0825030591.jpg |
It won't help for your finished Silvia, but, maybe future projects.
I have a quilt I'm working on right now that every single 1/2 triangle block was trimmed with this ruler. All 672 of them. And, every block is coming together like a dream. 2 more rows to go and a final border. Then off to the quilter it goes. |
All 672 of them????????? My goodness!!!!!!!!! Picture please when the top is finished! I've never seen a quilt with that many HST's!! I think........;)
Great blocks DonnaPea!!! Imagine.....you might already be finished by the time you read this! Well done!! |

Let me see if this photo will be as huge as the other ones I posted. It's a technique called multiple exposure. First picture normal, second one upside down, photo shopped a bit, turned it upside down again and now it's totally unrecognizable.
I learned this technique today and I have to admit, I really like it. |
Anael, I'm almost speechless. It looks like you are looking down through the clouds to the ground. Or, maybe a refelction. Very cool!
