Sweet little postcard, Judith. I wore my 6.5 ruler out, and now have the 8.5 one, but is not so handy when trimming the smaller blocks. I have found the small Creative Grids rulers to be very helpful when cutting HST's as well...the diagonal line runs from one corner to the other. Smaller size is easier to manipulate when I cut tiny HST's. These two have 1/2" finished HST's. The first was made with waste triangles.

Wow, OK!!!!!! Stunning!!!
|
OKsewglad, in my opinion, is the "mini" goddess. She is amazing and these are no less stunning pieces. She is the reason I started doing mini's. Just love her stuff and admire her skills.
Judith....I use a creative grid and square my HST's, too. Just have to remember to cut pieces larger than pattern calls for so you have enough to trim away. But, 600 plus would do my head in. Lol! adorable postcard and perfectly pieced, which does not surprise me. Anael...rockin pic, girl..... Did you ever consider printing some of your favorites on fabric and making a quilt? Some are so frameable they are that beautiful... So, off to paint some more.... |
Ok, your are the goddess of mini's. Those 1/2" sq. triangles are perfect. Your mini's are always a source of wonder to me. I'm not sure my pre-arthritic hands are up to working with that small of pieces. But, never say never....right. :)
|
Thanks you guys...these two went to AAQI's Priority on line fund raiser. Both were hard to let go, but went for a good cause!

This is my sky as a result of the Southern Calif fire called "Holy Fire". This is 20-25 miles from me but there are some QB members effected worse and some in the path. Second picture is the Sun. Only 5% contained and the arsonist arrested. Over 6,000 acres burned so far. Prayers for those in harms way...
|
oh Teen, that's terrible. I will definitely be praying for all. Including the fire fighters. An accidental blaze is bad enough. But to deliberately set a fire is unconscionable. The fires in California have been so bad this year!!
|
I will never understand why people do this. What's the point? What do they get out of this?
It's so sad....... |

Thanks for sharing that picture, Teen. Joining many others in prayer that this calamity will come to an end and that no further lives are lost.
Well - TA DA! It's a wrap. Here are the final 2 blocks. Not sure I could do another one; this quilt was big enough to truly be a challenge, but no so huge as to be unattainable. I am so grateful for all the tips, encouragement, support, and overall friendship from this group. I will pay in forward by continuing to follow this thread and support those who work on this really interesting project in the future. I learned a lot; I had only a vague concept of paper piecing before I took this on, now feel very comfortable with it, as well as learning a lot about sewing curves and what quilting techniques I do and don't really like. Now comes squaring them all up and tweaking a few that aren't quite what I want to put in a quilt for posterity. |
Congratulations, Donna..... These last blocks are fabulous. Can't wait to see your quilt assembled. And, I agree with you about the challenging skill building this project was. So glad you stuck with it.
|
Congratulations Donna!! Yipee!! The last two blocks are beautiful. I can't wait to see your final finished quilt.

You did it!!!! Well done Donna!!!!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you!!!!!!!! |
Oh the best is last...love that strip star block, DonnaPea.
Heartbreaking to see all this lovely landscape destroyed. MrOk and I were driving home today from Wisconsin. As we approached the bluffs along the Mississippi we could see a heavy gray haze in the distance as the sun was setting in the west...I'm sure it was smoke from out west. It made the view look like we were in the Smokey Mountains... |
Whoopie, Donna!!! Congratulations!
|
Anael, this is what 672 half square triangles look like. My Orange and Pink quilt is complete and ready to go to the quilter. I did put a 3.5 inch border in white all around (not pictured) to stabilize the edges for quilting.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh that's gorgeous Judith!!!!! So bright and happy and so my colours :D :D
Here's a photo I took today. It's a Laetiporus sulphureus, also called Chicken of the woods because it tastes like chicken. |
Thanks Anael. I thinks it's time to move onto a quilt that does not have all the same blocks. I was getting bored with these blocks by the last 2 rows. But, I pushed on and finished.
Cool photo. |
You're so much better than me! I would have gotten bored after the first 2 rows!!

Now that I've finished the king size "Chain Link" for my brother & his wife's X'mas, almost completed the twin size "Chain Link for g'son Xmas (ran out of the right green for the flanged binding for now), have completed the back of g'd's Xmas gift quilt & have it on the quilting frame and almost ready w/designs to start quilting in the blocks, borders, & sashing - am getting around to doing some math to see if I have enough of what I'm thinking of using for finishing the SBS - a pic of what I'm thinking. I think I like the one in the book better, but there is something about the shadow box look to - but w/the same colors as the one in the book.. Not sure yet if I have enough of what I already have to start cutting & laying out on the design wall w/the blocks that are already done. Now to get back to work on the last few blocks left to do while I'm in between other projects.

AuntJo, those are some great finishes. Looks like you will be all ready come Christmas time. Smart woman!
|
I am moving on to finish the R/W/B quilt from the swap blocks I exchanged in the swap here on the QB. My DSIL is back from Afghanistan. I want to hand deliver it in October when we visit for my grandson's and granddaughter's birthday. (Not twins. Their birthdays are just a few weeks apart. And with busy schedules being what they are, it is just easier to celebrate them together.) I'm also hoping to finish one of my farm quilts by then as well.
|
Judith...your quilt is fantastic....so crisp and fresh. Well done... And, praise be that he will returning from deployment soon...safe... My nephew is on his 5th deployment right now and due home Christmas time. Bless our soldiers...
auntjo....incredible finishes. You've been busy and results are stunning... Anael....fascinating plant. I have never seen that before...really neat photo... |
Wow auntjo, beautiful!!!! I like the shadow box idea.
Teen, it's a fungus, destroying the tree. I've seen them before but not this bright yellow. It's edible but I can't imagine using it for dinner! |
So many pretty quilts & pictures on this thread this morning. Aunt Jo & Judith - love both of your quilts, very different from each other in colors, but I love them both. Aunt Jo - I like the shadow box look too & think it would look great on your blocks. I am still tweaking and adding sashing to my blocks. Still undecided about cornerstones, am now thinking that with so many colors going on it might be best to go without them.

Lookin' good, Aunt Jo!
|
Thank you, Judith!! So sweet.
|
Well, I think I have the blocks placed in the most balanced way possible. I need one more block. It's always the hardest picking that last block. I have all the sashing strips and cornerstones all cut and ready to go. Teen, even one of your blocks made it into this quilt. Although, it was from the Summertime II Swap. I thought it would be perfect in this quilt. And, sure enough, it is the only paperpieced block and the perfect color in the perfect spot.

That looks great, Judith...and I see my block.. Al the blocks look great. Will be a wonderful quilt for a hero. I'm cutting out a QOV this week in between housework so we both have our thoughts on warriors this week.
|
Judith - That's a beauty! I love patriotic quilts. I'll be interested to see what you select for the grand finale.
|
Auntjo, wonderful batik blocks!!! Love them all :)
Judith, beautiful blocks. It will be a gorgeous quilt. Have you decided on the last block yet? |

It's so hard to not keep working on these blocks. I think I'm down to the last 13. But I really do need to go to work on the quilting for my Gd's quilt on the frame. 3 more the last couple days. I10 Rocky Road to Dublin, M9 King David's Crown, and M7 New Mexico.
|
Wow auntjo, those are stunning!!!! Very well done! And you're almost finished too!!!
|
These are so beautiful, auntjo. I should have paid you to make my New Mexico block. Lol!! Yours is fantastic....mine sucks and I didn't have the energy to redo that one. You are on the home stretch...woohoo!!
|
Knowing you Teen it can't be that bad!!
|
It was and is an awful block and sits proudly in my quilt. My eye is constantly drawn to it. Lol.. I refuse to post another picture of it.:D It's on the thread somewhere. If I recall, I boycotted my machine for 2 days and made a pitcher of Margaritas that night. That is how traumatizing that block was.....lol..
