Giquilt pretty blocks. I'd thought about putting the sashing on but wasn't sure I'd have enough of the background and know I can't get anymore of it. Also thinking of corner stones not sure of color to use. Best get some more done and than see

mirabelle 03-10-2014 05:05 AM

giquilt I am adding my sashing as I go, I am using the same background fabric throughout so that is my sashing and I just have to make up my mind for my cornerstones. Having made the Farmers Wife Sampler quilt where I made all 111 blocks and then sewed the sashing, I had to have a better plan so when I made the Farmers Wife Pony Club quilt which was only 90 blocks I added the sashing as I went. I use a safety pin to keep all my blocks together for their respective rows, and when I get 2 that go together I simply sew the sashing on. I am also doing this for Dear Jane, sew a couple of blocks and then sew some sashing. I hope that makes sense to you..

My latest blocks, just have to remove that starch residue from the centre of my star:o

QuiltingNinaSue 03-10-2014 03:44 PM

Mirabelle, Best Press does not leave behind any residue behind. I order from Jo Ann's when it's half price by the gallon. Gee, do I ever have use for it with all that I am trying to do. Working with Dear Jane today...very slowly... and press with Best Press as I finish each one.

I like Best Press too. Didn't know JoAnn's has it. Will watch for sale when I need a new gallon. I used it today also, but on my this weeks Sylvia's blocks. Still trying to organize DJ.

mirabelle 03-10-2014 07:29 PM

We don't have Best Press, the best one to use is Crisp, the residue will just brush off, not a problem

Thank you. Hoping I can keep the consistency. I have a hard time with color. :( Will see what I end up with. There are so many beautiful blocks here

Anael 03-10-2014 10:34 PM

Mirabelle, beautiful blocks!!! We don't have Best Press either nor Crisp. When I use too much of the starch I have it burns the fabrics :(

MamaHen 03-14-2014 05:19 AM

Wow, no one has posted here in 3 days, guess everyone is as busy as I have been. I have 13 blocks done, but have not taken & posted pictures yet, in time. I powered sprayed my whole house this past week, what a chore, what have you all been doing?

QuiltingNinaSue 03-14-2014 06:17 AM

Good to hear from you MamaHen. I have sooooo many projects to do but life has a way of interfering with my plans... trying to do Sylvia, 50 fab Stars, Dear Jane, SYE, and a Tennessee Waltz quilt on the side. But my bone-on-bone right knee with Arthritis is not allowing me to use the sewing machine, and fingers cannot do hand work, so I sit and imagine what I could be doing. Like 8 blocks for Sylvia, 5 Fab Stars, 10 Dear Jane, and 3 SYE, and 50 54-40 star blocks and 49 snowball blocks for TW. And there's housework to do as we are having company coming in for a week on Monday. I have earned my pilot's license this week, piling things here and moving it there. In time it will happen. Meanwhile, I will enjoy seeing everyone block's posted here and enjoy our warm weather and sunshine. I wish you all the best of the best.

Anael 03-14-2014 09:04 AM

I didn't do a thing these past few days due to health problems. But I will be back, don't know when though!

What lovely 'eye' candy to see this morning. Karen, love your green square. I can see a lovely whole quilt of that block. Wump, love your batiks colors and blocks. Giquilt, you have lovely colors also for your quilt.

I have company coming in today for a week; its been almost 37 years since we have had a week together, so lots of 'catching up' on talk this week...maybe some quilting.

Happy ST. Patrick Day to everyone...may it be your lucky day! Corned beef and potatoes here.

Anael 03-17-2014 07:26 AM

giquilt, lovely blocks! What are those tiny ones with black dots doing there? A new project?

thimblebug6000 03-17-2014 07:53 AM

Great blocks everyone, hope to catch up next month.

Anael 03-17-2014 11:15 AM

Not a new project, I made those some time back. I was trying to make a certain size using the Square-in-a-Square method with diamonds. Had to make several in order to get the right size.

I'm trying to catch up, but here is what I have got done so far.

Anael 03-19-2014 08:15 AM

Oh Karen and MamaHen, those blocks are beautiful ! ! ! ! !

MamaHen, what kind of fabric are you using as your background? I love the colour!

MamaHen 03-19-2014 12:57 PM

Anael, it is from the Heirloom Collection by Harriet Hargrave for P & B Textiles, I have had it for a number of years now so decided it was time to use it.

QuiltingNinaSue 03-19-2014 06:42 PM

Beautiful blocks. I picked up a bit more fabric today for Sylvia Blocks, and got the book spiral bound so it lays flat on the scanner or table...on the small FART trip I and a good lady friend made today. Since I drove and used my car, she would not let me pay for one item at the Quilt Store or Grocery store. So we acquired fabric for her two yr old grandson an I SPY Quilt. Now to get caught up on the current blocks on Sylvia.

Good question.... if it is possible I'll be changing mine. I just added in the letters as my first column, but it's not as sleek as it could be if they can be reversed.

I don't think this can be done BUT I did figure out how to have mine look like I did it. First I inserted a row at the top and put # 1-10 across; then I inserted a column on the left and put A-N down there; then I went to Tools-options-view and unchecked row & column headings; then I highlighted the top two rows and went to Window & selected freeze panes and saved. Now my spreadsheet shows numbers across the top that show while I scroll down the spreadsheet, and I have the letters on the left.

Anael 03-20-2014 08:04 AM

Thanks thimblebug, I have to try that too!

Thimblebug so sorry about the broken wing, but looks like you are putting your time to good use.

Karen G- that is what we should all be doing, having fun!
MamaHen- wow, lots of sewing, great colors
All- looking good!
I got behind this week due to going to a quilt show. Took Feathered Stars from Marsha McCloskey, talk about tiny piecing. Great class!
